Serenity and Zachary York novel Chapter 2242

Duncan tightened his hold around the boy, then abruptly opened his eyes.

Seeing that it was Liberty, Duncan let out a big smile and asked, “Are you finished with work, Liberty? Can we go home? Sonny is tired. I held him so he could sleep for a while, but I fell asleep too.”

Liberty pulled her arm away from her son’s face.

Duncan lamented his slow reflexes. He could have snatched her hand and pulled it to his face when she was withdrawing her arm.

He beat himself up for being a light sleeper too. If he slept like a log, Liberty would have probably snuck a kiss on him.

Duncan wondered if it was too late to fall back asleep.

“I’m finished for the day. I appreciate you looking after Sonny till this late, Mr. Lewis.”

Duncan said, “Always happy to help, especially since Sonny’s warming up to me.”

Back then, Sonny would not even let Duncan hold him because of the scar on his face.

To this day, Duncan had not gone under the knife to remove the scar.

Liberty knew the story behind the scar and understood the reason he kept the imperfection on his face.

The lesion on his face had been quite alarming when she first met him, but Liberty had grown accustomed to seeing it.

In fact, her heart went out to Duncan as the cut to his flesh must have been very painful.

Liberty responded with a smile, “That’s true. I hope business continues to boom like it did today, and I will realize my dream of opening a five-star hotel in three years. I won’t start a hotel business in Wiltspoon though. I’ll check out other cities to get into the hotel business.”

Duncan asked, “Why not Wiltspoon?”

“The competition among five-star hotels in Wiltspoon is cutthroat. How am I supposed to compete with Wiltspoon Hotel and the hotel owned by my aunt’s family? I don’t even want to try. There’s no satisfaction in competing with family. I can only measure my success against others.”

Duncan burst out laughing. “It makes sense. Zachary’s family basically owns Wiltspoon. I didn’t invest heavily in the hotel business because I knew I couldn’t compete with Wiltspoon Hotel. I’d be looking at a loss. Your aunt’s hotel couldn’t even topple the powerhouse either. The other hotels around Wiltspoon Hotel were forced to shut down. At least you know where you stand. Let’s compete with others instead of family.”

“See, even you wouldn’t pour too much money into the hotel business. Maybe I should reconsider investing in a hotel since I am new to the industry. Perhaps I should instead expand my restaurant empire.”

“I’d recommend putting the hotel plan on hold as you’d need to raise a big sum of capital. I’m not talking hundreds of thousands of dollars, but millions. You could lose your capital if the business doesn’t pick up.”
