The custodian brought bad news: The First Calamity would soon descend on Earth and cause great destruction to humans. Billions would perish.
James was at a loss. He had no idea what Earth would become after the First Calamity.
Then, he headed to the Callahans’ residence.
Before he even entered the house, he could hear the sound of people happily chattering away. They were having lunch.
He rang the doorbell.
Soon, someone answered the door.
It was Tommy.
Upon seeing James, he froze before collecting himself. “Y-You’re back, James. Please come in.”
“Grandpa, Thea, James is back.” Tommy’s voice boomed.
Everyone stood up.
Upon entering the house, a young girl ran toward James and hugged his leg, cheering merrily, “Daddy, you’re back!”
It was Winnie.
Now seven years of age, she had grown taller.
Although James seldom returned home, Winnie knew what her father looked like.
Thea walked over to him and said with a smile, “You’re back.”
“Mhm.” James nodded.
Putting his thoughts aside, he entered the villa.
Lex immediately ordered his servants to grab some extra cutleries.
James had lunch at the Callahans’ residence.
After lunch, James sat on a chair in the courtyard with a sullen look on his face.
Thea grabbed his hand and asked, “What’s wrong? You’ve been like this ever since you returned.”
Winnie ran toward them.
“I want to go to the amusement park.”
Putting his thoughts aside, James looked at Winnie and patted her head, saying with a smile, “Sure thing. I’ll take you to the amusement park.”
Over the next few days, James remained in Cansington and accompanied his family.
On a night two weeks later…
James was sitting on the balcony of the villa, smoking his cigarettes as he watched the pitch-black sky. Tonight’s darkness was rather unusual.
Boom!
A flash of silver lightning illuminated the pitch-black sky, and a deafening thunder reverberated throughout the sky.
At that moment, Thea walked over to James in her pajamas. “Darling, it’s getting late. We should sleep.”
She spoke in a melodious voice.
