But Tyrone made no move to hide. Instead, he simply smiled at Easton. “Hungry? Go wash up, let’s eat together.”

Alicia shot Tyrone a suspicious look. “Easton already knew you were alive, didn’t he?”

“I left him a coded message,” Tyrone murmured in explanation.

He’d left one for Alicia, too—having Felix bring her a bouquet of white lilies as a signal.

Alicia huffed, turning away from Tyrone in annoyance. He kept everything wrapped in secrecy.

“Is my sister-in-law mad at you again?” Easton asked, bewildered.

“Maybe it’s her hormones—pregnancy’s been rough,” Winnie replied, her eyes fixed longingly on the bread basket. She sneakily grabbed a slice of cranberry bread and tossed another piece to Easton.

“We’ve known each other since we were kids.” Alicia’s gaze was steady. “When my eyes were almost blinded in that fire, you were there, weren’t you? The old man selling sweets in Harboridge—the one you visited back home in Grandcrest—he was your family’s butler, wasn’t he? And that big golden retriever…”

Before leaving, Alicia had made a special trip to that busy street in Harboridge. She’d seen the old man at the dessert shop, and the two golden retrievers—one large, one small—lounging by the door.
