Lawson & Co.
Ever since Tyrone’s downfall, Lawson & Co. had been torn apart by internal strife. Mayfield was pulling every trick in the book to wrest control of the company from Vincent, both men locked in a ruthless battle for shares.
Vincent, meanwhile, had frozen the funds from Tyrone’s last project in his own private account. Using “project complications” as an excuse, he’d unilaterally shut everything down. Now, the money sat in limbo—untouchable, unless Tyrone himself returned from the grave, or Vincent personally applied for Alicia to access it. No one else could move a cent.
“Vincent! Are you seriously planning to pocket that money for yourself?” Stephen stormed into Vincent’s office, voice trembling with fury. “You might get your hands on it, but you won’t live long enough to spend it. Just do as we agreed—wire all the funds to the overseas account. Now!”
Stephen couldn’t believe Vincent had the nerve to go rogue.
“The project’s in trouble. I can’t just transfer the money like it’s nothing. Tyrone is dead, but I still have obligations to my business partners,” Vincent replied coolly, barely looking up.
“Tyrone’s dead! Who cares if the project’s in trouble?” Stephen snapped, jaw clenched. “Transfer the money, and that’s the end of it. Do you hear me?”
Stephen’s anger was barely contained. He knew he couldn’t skim off the top himself, but if Vincent kept the money, it would drag the entire Lawson family down with him.
But Vincent was determined to push him.
“Dad, the money’s safe in my account. Once things blow over, we can use it to kickstart a new venture. Why not? Alicia’s just a naive little girl—she won’t make any trouble for us,” Vincent said deliberately, watching Stephen’s reaction.
Stephen’s face twisted with panic.
If you want to die, don’t take the rest of us with you. “Even Tyrone’s gone. Think about it.”
With that, Stephen stormed out.
Vincent decided to stall as long as he could, just to see if whoever was pulling the strings would finally show themselves for the sake of that money.
“Mr. Lawson, Evercrest Group just snatched the development rights for the Westmere District project. Right now, there are three contenders in Seaview City. With your attention elsewhere, Havencrest Construction got careless, and Evercrest swooped in. Their growth these past few years has been staggering.” Vincent’s assistant rushed in, anxiety written all over his face.
Vincent said nothing. No one seemed to notice that since the news of Tyrone’s “death,” Evercrest Group had only been gaining momentum.
