Revenge is best served cold novel Chapter 273

After leaving the Simpson residence, I didn't return to the office. Instead, I went straight home.

Even though everything had gone incredibly smoothly today, I was still mentally drained. I needed to recharge.

The moment I opened the door, the rich aroma of food filled the air.

Following the scent, I made my way to the dining area. I caught sight of Eric's silhouette in the kitchen through the gap in the door.

A mischievous idea popped into my head, and I stealthily tiptoed inside.

"You're back just in time. Dinner's ready." Eric's voice rang out before I could even make a move. That sure gave me a scare.

I waved my hand behind his head in disbelief.

He chuckled. "I don't have eyes at the back of my head, alright?"

"Liar." I pouted. "You didn't even turn around. How did you know I was here?"

"I could smell you," he answered matter-of-factly.

"Smell me?" I blinked in confusion and sniffed my own clothes. I never liked wearing perfume as I find the scent too overpowering.

The only scents on me were from my body wash and laundry detergent. Considering Eric and I used the same brands, how could he possibly tell the difference?

Noticing my confusion, he smiled knowingly and said, "You have a scent that makes me feel at ease. Whenever you're near, I can sense it."

His words caused me to blush. For a moment, I had the sneaking suspicion that he was doing this on purpose just to fluster me.

"I'm going to get changed before dinner. Be right back."

With that, I hurried out of the kitchen. By the time I returned, my emotions were back in check. Looking at the spread of dishes on the table, I was visibly surprised and stared at Eric in shock.

"You made all of this?"

When I locked eyes with him, my expression made it clear—I had seen through him.

Eric sighed, then smiled at me. He knew full well that he couldn't hide it from me.

"Guess I couldn't hide it from you, after all. I didn't do much. All I did was speed up the process for you. I knew you could handle it yourself."

He said it so casually as if he didn't want me to feel pressured by his help.

In the past, I would've felt burdened by his kindness, but eventually, that feeling changed.

At some point, I started to expect him to take my side. And just as naturally, I felt like I should be nice to him too.

As for when exactly did this start? I had no idea.
