I hurriedly put Eric back on the bed when I saw him doing something that could worsen his injuries.
"We can get our marriage certificate when your wound has recovered."
Eric looked at me intensely. "Will you think twice about your decision before then?"
I shook my head. "I won't. You have my word."
Marrying him was my best option now. If he didn't have second thoughts about it, then neither would I.
After I promised Eric, he finally resumed his usual calm and collected self. For the next few days, he was particularly enthusiastic and cooperative when it came to treatment.
On the fifth day of my divorce, Jeremiah and Elsa showed up outside the ward.
I had just bought breakfast and returned. Before I could feed Eric, I heard someone knocking. I opened the door and found myself looking at them. My joyful mood vanished instantly.
I cast a cold glance at them for a second. My hand moved instinctively before I could formulate a thought, and I was already closing the door.
Jeremiah reached out and stopped me. Then, he came inside uninvited. Elsa followed him and rolled her eyes at me when she was sure no one could see her before resuming her usual delicate manner.
Eric's expression darkened when he saw Elsa and Jeremiah.
Jeremiah immediately exclaimed tauntingly, "Surprise. I'm already walking free! It would seem that Flint Group isn't all that powerful, after all. I'm already out of prison in just a few days."
Then, he turned and faced me. "The raw materials supplier admitted that everything was his fault. The evidence you submitted couldn't convict me either. I can just imagine how disappointed you must be."
She might not have any shares or jobs in the Brown family, but she had Jack and Jeremiah under her thumb.
"None whatsoever," I responded nonchalantly. "It's our private time now, and my fiancé and I need to rest. You'll have to wait until we're free if you want to talk about work."
At the next moment, a security guard arrived at the door. I secretly called him here earlier.
Jeremiah might be a cocky prick, but he was taken away all the same. Elsa had to maintain her image of a delicate lady in front of others. Naturally, she offered no resistance.
However, Elsa was unexpectedly bold and came back again despite getting chased out of the hospital once before. This time, she came alone.
I handled some of Eric's work on his behalf in the afternoon. When it was time for dinner, I went outside to buy some food. I had just turned the corner in the hallway when I caught a glimpse of a figure sneaking into Eric's ward out of the corner of my eyes.
