Revenge is best served cold novel Chapter 155

After giving my statement to the police and getting their approval, I went to see Blake.

Fate had a twisted sense of humor. Both Blake and Eric had fallen from the building, yet Eric ended up with more severe injuries.

Blake, on the other hand, only suffered minor scrapes. After a quick bandage job, he was transferred to a regular hospital ward.

Now, without the mask hiding his face, he looked visibly uneasy the moment I stepped in.

I sat beside him and said coolly, "I know who you are."

His eyes flickered with surprise, but I remained composed. "Why did you do it?"

He lifted his chin stubbornly. "No reason. I just couldn't stand watching you bully Elsa, so I wanted to stand up for her."

His words might've sounded righteous, but the panic in his eyes was impossible to miss. The mask had allowed him to forget who he really was. But now, without it, he had no choice but to be Blake.

I chuckled and exposed his lie. "If that's the case, then why did you kidnap Elsa?"

"I…" His voice faltered, and he fumbled for a response.

Watching him cling to his stubborn act, I let out a sigh. "So, you're really willing to be used like this?"

Elsa had manipulated him, all just to prove that she was the one who mattered most in Jack's and Jeremiah's hearts. And Blake was willing to go this far for the mere illusion of her affection.

Looking at the determined expression on his face, I suddenly saw a glimpse of my past self. For Jeremiah, I had lost sight of who I was back then. I decided not to push Blake any further and got up to leave.

"Wait," Blake called after me. "You're not going to make things difficult for her, are you?"

I couldn't help but laugh at that. "Now I'm really curious just how badly Elsa has painted me out to be."

"Jae… Jae…" he mumbled my name, his hand reaching clumsily through the air.

I caught it and gave it a gentle squeeze. "I'm here."

For a brief moment, he quieted down, but then he started mumbling again, making soft, whimpering noises like a helpless puppy.

I couldn't quite make out what he was saying, so I leaned in closer. We were now close enough that I could feel the warmth of his breath against my skin.

"Jae, don't like that scumbag Jeremiah anymore. I'll kick him to the curb for you. I'm strong and dependable. I'm the perfect husband. Pick me, pick me. With me around, I'll make sure you're happy every single day. I promise. So, choose me, okay? Choose me!"

My mind went completely blank.

In the silent hospital ward, the only sounds were Eric's delirious murmurs and the thunderous pounding of my own heart.
