Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James) novel Chapter 1826

"Sir, aren't you going to check on her?" Rick asked, knowing full well that Gordon was the most concerned about Sophie's safety. Clubs like Nightshade weren't exactly known for their safety.

Gordon, however, remained unruffled. "The meeting continues," he said calmly.

Rick was taken aback. Continue? Really? But he didn't dare question it, and neither did the other executives, who quickly resumed their meeting, some even picking up the pace as if sensing a shift in the room's energy.

Meanwhile, over at Nightshade, Jenna was well on her way to being drunk. She glanced at her phone—an entire hour had passed since they arrived.

Why hasn't Gordon's crew shown up yet? It didn't add up. There's no way Gordon, who cherished Sophie like a treasure, would let her run amok like this. Something's fishy!

Just as Jenna was piecing things together, a bodyguard from the Dennis family barged in, scanning the crowd for her.

"Ms. Jenna! Ms. Jenna!" he called, pushing his way through until he finally reached her.

"What are you doing here after hours?" Jenna frowned.

The bodyguard looked serious. "There's an emergency at the company. An urgent meeting is happening right now. You need to get back immediately!"

"What? Everything was fine when I left," Jenna said, her expression darkening. Sophie, standing nearby, chimed in, "Jenna, is something wrong?"

Looking up, she found herself face-to-face with Gordon. He was still in his business suit, like he'd just wrapped up a meeting.

Sophie, her eyes hazy from the alcohol, stared at him for a moment before it clicked. "Brother…" she said, feeling a wave of emotion swell up. "I didn't mean to come here to party. I thought you weren't coming for me."

Seeing Sophie so tipsy and vulnerable, Gordon felt a mix of amusement and exasperation. He gently pinched her nose. "Did you enjoy it?"

"...It was alright. Makes you feel all light and floaty," Sophie giggled, clinging to him tightly.

"Sir, the car’s ready," Rick announced as he walked in, just in time to see Gordon lift Sophie into his arms. "Let’s get going," Gordon said.
