Watching the jade token in Colby's hand, Sophie finally faced reality.
Everything that happened today was still vivid in her mind; she had only slept, but upon waking, she had to confront the fact that Jonah was gone.
"It's my fault. If he hadn't gone in with me, he wouldn't have experienced this. Maybe he would still be alive."
"Everyone has their own choices. It's nobody's fault. If we must blame someone, it would be The Silent Shadows."
Colby gently touched Sophie's cheek, saying, "This time, you really scared me, you know?"
"I just had this feeling, this belief that you were right by my side, not far from me."
Sophie leaned into Colby's embrace and said earnestly, "The Silent Shadows, those who hurt Odie and killed Jonah, I will make them pay with their lives."
"Alright."
Colby said, "No matter what happens, we will always be together."
Sophie closed her eyes, utterly exhausted, and fell into a deep sleep in Colby's arms.
A night of peaceful rest.
The next day, when Sophie opened her eyes, it was already noon. Due to her injuries, she was less mobile.
Everyone was outside Sophie's bedroom, while William was inside, carefully examining Sophie's wounds.
"Hmm, it's not a big issue, just needs a change of dressing."
William packed up his medical kit and called out to the people at the door, "You all can come in now!"
Outside, Jenna and others entered.
Sophie adjusted her clothes and said, propped up in bed, "Thank you all for coming over specially."
"Let's not think about this for now. Even if we rack our brains, it's useless. Did you find out anything when you met with Reece? Did you see Odie?"
At the mention of Odie, Sophie fell silent once again.
After Sophie recounted everything that happened in the valley the day before, Jenna stood up angrily: "That Odie! We're all risking our lives to save him, and not only does he not come back with us, but he also says such hurtful things!"
"Jenna, don't be mad. Maybe Odie wants to act as an undercover agent?"
"Please! Him, an undercover? How could The Silent Shadows ever trust him!"
What Jenna said was exactly what Sophie was thinking.
Odie's sudden decision to stay with The Silent Shadows couldn't be as simple as wanting to act undercover.
Or rather, he had some reason that forced him to stay with The Silent Shadows.
