When they reached the hospital room, Waylon had indeed woken up. However, as he had just regained consciousness and was still in critical condition, the doctors restricted visitors. In the end, Waylon specifically requested that only Valerie come in.
This left everyone stunned and incredulous, their faces contorted in bewilderment.
With so many people in the Walker family, everyone would have understood if Waylon had called Aiden in. No orie could make sense of this request
Everyone found it hard to believe, even Valerie herself found it odd.
Aiden had a sinking feeling in his gut. He grabbed her arm. “I’m coming in with you,” he said firmly.
The doctor stood at the door with an apologetic look. “Mr. Walker specifically requested only Ms. Clark.”
Valerie immediately caught the formal address. A chill ran down her spine. She was already starting to guess what was coming, and a heavy weight
settled in her chest.
Under the weight of curious stares, Valerie gently withdrew her hand from Aiden’s grasp and said calmly, “I’ll go in alone. It shouldn’t take long.”
True to her word, it was over quickly.
Steeling herself, Valerie walked into the hospital room. The moment she entered, the first thing she saw was Waylon propped up on the bed.
He didn’t look exactly frail, but he was clearly less spirited than usual. An oxygen tube rested beneath his nose, and an IV drip hung from his arm. When he looked over, his gaze was dull yet still sharp as a blade.
Valerie instinctively twisted the hem of her blouse as she stepped inside. “Grandfather,” she greeted softly.
Waylon fixed his gaze on her and said, “I almost died today.”
Valerie was momentarily stunned by his blunt opening. Recovering quickly, she offered politely, “You’re under divine protection…”
“Enough,” Waylon waved his hand impatiently. “When I was in a coma, I was actually conscious. Do you
what I was thinking then?”
Valerie stepped closer and shook her head slightly.
Waylon sneered, his words razor–sharp. “I was thinking, if I were to die just like this, wouldn’t you be holding back my grandson for the rest of his life?”
Valerie felt a sharp pang in her heart and raised her eyes to meet his gaze.
Waylon’s tone was icy. “Aiden has always been an incredibly talented heir, brilliant, ambitious, never content with mediocrity, and ruthless enough when needed. A man like him belongs at the pinnacle of this world, and the woman who stands beside him should be just as exceptional.”
Waylon’s tone turned even icier. He glared at Valerie. “Who the hell do you think you are? Do you honestly believe you’re worthy of Aiden?”
His words were brutally direct, like a dagger plunged straight into Valerie’s heart.
Waylon said coldly, “To be frank, I’m grateful to the Clark family. If Aiden had married a daughter of the Clark family, even you, I could have accepted it. But you’re nothing. Do you honestly think you deserve to be Mrs. Walker? When I was on the verge of death just now, my only regret was this. You’re a sensible girl, you know what needs to be done, don’t you?”
Valerie looked at him with a faint smile. “So, you’re asking me to divorce Aiden?”
“This isn’t up for discussion.”

Chapter 196
“I know,” Valerie said, her calmness catching Waylon by surprise. “But you don’t have the right.”
Waylon furrowed his brow and let out a cold, mocking laugh. “Do you have any idea who you’re speaking to?”
No one in this world had ever dared to reject his request.
Waylon had been a titan in the business world for years, with connections spanning both legitimate and underground circles, even the most powerful politicians bent over backward to please him. And yet, Valerie actually dared to turn him down.
Valerie smiled faintly. “Grandpa, I know you’ve had a rough day and you’re tired. I don’t think now is the right time to talk about this. Why don’t you get some rest first?”
Waylon’s face darkened with fury. “How dare you!”
Waylon’s furious shout triggered a violent coughing fit.
Valerie hurried over and gently patted his back to help him steady his breathing, then quickly poured a glass of water and offered it to him.
But before Valerie could get close, Waylon shoved her back sharply and barked, his voice laced with suspicion, “Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up
to!”
Valerie got drenched, a dark stain instantly spreading across her clothes.
Seeing this, Waylon’s tone seemed to soften slightly, but his words remained firm. He said gravely, “It hasn’t been easy for an orphan like you to get this far, but the Walker family will eventually belong to Aiden. A corporation this massive can’t be managed by him alone, and someone like you would only hold him back. Valerie, I know you’re a good kid, but you can only shoulder as much as you’re capable of. You’re not fit to be the head of this family, nor can you handle the storms and challenges ahead. It’s better for you to step aside now. I’m saying this for your own good.”
Valerie wiped the water from her soaked clothes and said calmly, “Grandpa, you might not believe me, but this marriage wasn’t my choice. I knew exactly who I was marrying, but I had no say in it. You only see me as an imposter, but do you even know why it had to be me?”
Waylon’s brow furrowed deeply.
Valerie let out a bitter laugh. “I’m just an imposter, I don’t have the power to make this decision. Instead of persuading me to step down, why not talk to those who put me here in the first place and see if they’re willing to let me go?”
