Chapter 177

Paxton could only sigh in resignation.

Paxton couldn’t help but think, ‘This isn’t just impolite. Leon is spending money out of revenge!‘

Yet there was nothing he could say. Although he wished for his brothers to get along, they had to resolve these issues themselves.

As expected, the supper cost a staggering 15 thousand dollars, and wiped out more than half of Nelson’s savings. Yet, he did not say a thing.

At breakfast the next morning, he ‘accidentally‘ dropped the receipt–just enough to reveal the total. Although Nelson kept a straight face, deep down, he was hoping that someone would notice how much he spent last night.

His grandfather ended up spotting it. He frowned as he demanded, “What’s that? Show it to me!”

Nelson seemed to hesitate for a moment before he said, “It’s just the receipt from last night’s supper.”

“What the hell kind of supper costs this much?” The old man’s face darkened as he snatched the receipt right out of Nelson’s hand. After checking the total, the dishes, and the number of diners, he exploded, “Fifteen thousand dollars for three people? Must be nice having money, huh? Don’t forget your place, Nelson!”

Nelson kept his head down and said nothing as he reminded himself, ‘I have never once forgotten who I am.‘

His grandfather was notoriously frugal, and such extravagant spending was completely unacceptable to him.

Hearing the roar, Paxton thought, “This is bad,” and ducked away, not daring to get involved.

After being scolded, Nelson headed to work, only to run into Leon looking smug and triumphant.

After gloating and taunting him with a triumphant grin, Leon strutted off to the meeting, thoroughly pleased with himself.

But halfway through the meeting, Leon was abruptly summoned by the old man’s assistant.

Leon felt a flicker of panic at first, but then reassured himself that Nelson was a wimp who would never snitch on him. With that self–assurance, Leon headed to his grandfather’s office.

However, his grandfather tore into Leon mercilessly the moment he stepped into the office.

After getting scolded, Leon stormed out with resentment written across his face. After finding out that Nelson was leisurely sipping tea in the office, Leon marched over and barked, “You dare to snitch on me?”

“What are you talking about?” Nelson set his cup down calmly. “Grandpa could easily find out about a bullying incident if he looked into it. He’s fair and would never wrongly accuse any kid, but he also wouldn’t let any bully get away with it.” With a mocking smirk, Nelson looked at him and added, “I didn’t say a thing.”

Leon was absolutely livid. He glared daggers at Nelson for a long moment before finally storming off in a huff.

Nelson smirked.

On the surface, this confrontation seemed to cost Nelson dearly, but in truth, it was Leon who took the real blow.

Nelson knew that his grandfather would show him more compassion after this episode.

‘I’ll climb my way to the top,‘ Nelson vowed to himself.

‘All for…that person,‘ Nelson thought, determination flickering in his eyes.

Valerie’s jewelry design competition had reached its peak and would require her to travel to another city to take part in the next round,

The competition drew numerous participants, but only a select few made it through the tough screening to reach the finals, and Valerie stood proudly among them.

Although Reano University is a prestigious university, its jewelry specialisation lags behind those of specialized schools. Yet this time, against aff expectations, it produced a contestant who qualified for an international jewelry competition. This breakthrough caught the full attention of the Reano University administration.

Not only did they arrange for Valerie’s mentor to accompany her to the competition, but they also provided her with a luxury van and a personal

assistant.

Although this was largely due to the influential figure behind her, this treatment was beyond anything the university had ever offered before.

While packing at home, Valerie suddenly caught sight of a gold–trimmed black invitation.

This is an invitation to the birthday gala of Colette Shelton, the old Madam of the Shelton family, which was just five days away.

The competition was set to last four days and would wrap up just in time for Colette’s birthday gala the next day. However, Valerie had not had the chance to pick out an evening gown, and she was leaving for Endver City tomorrow.

When Valerie mentioned this to Adrienne, Adrienne responded nonchalantly, “What’s the big deal? The competition ends on the third day. The awards ceremony is on the fourth. You can just go pick out an evening gown that afternoon, can’t you?”

Valerie realized Adrienne had a point and nodded.

Only after Valerie had finished packing and was ready to leave did she finally call Aiden, casually mentioning that she’d be attending the competition.

Aiden knew she was participating in the jewelry design competition. He acknowledged coolly, then casually asked, “When are you coming back?”

Valerie thought for a moment. “Next week, after the competition, I still need to attend the birthday celebration of an elderly lady.”

“Okay,” Aiden replied coolly and promptly ended the call without further questions,

Valerie couldn’t help but wonder, “Aiden is surprisingly agreeable today…Could it be because I left him so satisfied last night?”

Valerie cleared her throat awkwardly, cheeks burning crimson as she quickly busied herself with packing and tried to shake off those distracting thoughts.

Valerie’s assistant, Mandy, was a tall, slim woman with short, dark hair. She had a tanned complexion and a serious, no–nonsense demeanor. Rumor was that she was personally appointed by Aiden and was not assigned by the university. From now on, she would oversee both Valerie’s daily needs and security.

Mandy was remarkably strong, easily hefting Valerie’s luggage into the car. Her driving was equally professional as they made their way to the airport. After observing for a while, Valerie turned to reviewing the materials for her upcoming competition.
