On each boat stood a dozen armored soldiers, gripping crossbows in their hands. The overwhelming aura of impending violence spread in all directions, filling the air with a suffocating tension.
Sebastian's face darkened. He was well aware of the lethality of these crossbows.
Those weapons were very expensive to make, but they had incredible speed and terrifying penetrating power. They were capable of piercing through armor from a distance of 547 yards.
A few scattered bolts wouldn't pose much of a threat to a divine grandmaster.
What about hundreds of bolts fired at once?
No one could withstand that.
As Sebastian reeled from shock, Caspian was equally taken aback.
He had expected Sebastian's escape but hadn't expected it to happen so quickly, as though Sebastian had somehow known the way out beforehand.
This baffled him. After all, he was the only one who knew the secret mechanism to open the hidden chamber, not even Louis was aware of it.
As for the craftsmen and engineers who built the underground palace, he had made sure they were all eliminated after their work was done.
Despite his surprise, Sebastian remained calm because he had a backup plan. The 300 cross rows would be enough to kill any intruder.
Moreover, he had successfully cultivated the ninth level of his Demon Clone Technique. Even in one-on-one battle, he felt confident in his ability to defeat Sebastian.
Standing proudly at the bow of the ship, Caspian clasped his hands behind his back and said with arrogance, "I didn't expect you to escape so soon. You've surprised me, but it doesn't matter. You'll still die."
Sebastian glanced at Caspian from a distance, his spiritual senses unable to probe him due to the gap. However, his instincts let him know that he was extremely dangerous.
Though he was in a perilous situation, Sebastian remained composed. He asked sarcastically, "You're the imperial chaplain, but you still have to resort to such petty schemes? I guess your title as the Starfire Empire's strongest was earned through such underhanded methods."
