She smiled. "We've fulfilled our part of the deal with Ms. Sidorov. If the groom is missing, it's not our problem. Besides, we already signed the contract."

Trevor's expression turned serious. "You're making this sound too simple. Ms. Sidorov gave us that contract because of him. They might cancel the wedding without a second thought if the wedding doesn't happen. For our peace of mind, we must locate him now."

Lila's face paled at his words. "There's no way we can find the groom."

"What do you mean?" he asked urgently.

"He's dead," she said.

"What?" Trevor was taken aback. "Lila, you've gone too far! How could you kill him? If Ms. Sidorov finds out, we're done for."

"It wasn't me! It was Waylon who did it!" Lila hurriedly explained.

"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" His anxiety turned to irritation.

She realized the gravity of the situation and asked, "Dad, what do we do now?"

"What else can we do? For now, we have to act like we don't know anything. We might lose the contract, but let's just hope Ms. Sidorov doesn't take it out on us."

"Mr. Karcher, are you serious?" Trevor asked, and his face brimmed with hope.

They had hoped to curry favor with Deimante. Since the groom was dead, Trevor knew only the Karcher family could save them now.

"Of course. I'm a man of my word," Waylon said proudly.

"But what about Ms. Sidorov?" Trevor voiced his concern.

"Don't worry about her. I've already spoken to the other three major families of the Bejeweled Tower. They supported me, so you don't have to worry about her revenge," Waylon boasted.

"That's great!" Trevor exclaimed. He turned to Lila and said, "It seems you have no choice but to marry Mr. Karcher now."

"Dad, I—"

Lila wanted to protest, but Waylon interrupted, "Though you might only be able to be my mistress, I promise to treat you well. If you refuse, I can guarantee that your family will be left with nothing."
