Lisa shifted in the passenger seat. She looked at Killian with that uncomfortable look she always carried when she was speaking to him. "We have arrived at the venue, Alpha Sokolov."
His beast’s ears flattened as he started sniffing and looking around the venue where these two had brought them. This is getting suspicious. There was this quiet weight to his words, laden with worry and suspicions that were now running so high that Killian could feel suspicion coiling around his heart. I cannot smell anything weird, but I don’t like being here either. It’s like something I want to revoke whatever is going on here. Like an invisible evil spirit lingering around the dark corners.
His beast rose closer to his surface, and Killian had to recall Inez’s scent to calm him down. His beast wanted blood — wanted to hunt down every single person in this pack and bring his mate back to his side. Since Seth told him that the key to finding Inez was in this pack, his beast only wanted one thing: the blood of these people. But rushing in without a plan would only put his as well as the lives of his enforcers in danger. Killian, too, wanted to do it the old way, but he couldn’t because there were lives at stake here.
They needed to find out what the hell was wrong with this pack first. Then only...
Finn opened the door at the back of the car, creating a diversion that Lisa seemed to adore. She cast a thankful look at his beta while Drakon turned and cleared his throat. "Shall we alpha Sokolov?"
Calm yourself down; we don’t want to make a mess before we can even find where Ienz is, Killian told his beast, deciding to shelve the annihilation of this pack until he got what he wanted.
His beast hissed within him, clearly upset with the suggestion. He lowered his head, but not out of submission; instead, it was clear annoyance. His beast didn’t want to look at him; thus, he lowered his head. He defiantly muttered inside of him, ’We could have just skinned these people alive and be done with it. But since you want to do it the complicated way, then be my guest.’
The air around the venue smelled rather strange; it almost made the back of his neck feel itchy, but Killian couldn’t exactly find out the reason. He looked around the surrounding area, only to find it completely normal or as normal as a deserted territory could feel.
Killian tugged on his tie. Ajax had brought him his shoes and suit, saying that since they were here to attend the banquet, they might as well do it in fashion. That man even got him and Finn glistening and polished shoes; who knows when he got the time to polish these shoes?
"This is stupid," Killian muttered as he pulled on his tie, loosening it.
"Don’t you like the suit, alpha?" Ajax asked, and in response, Killian only shot him a look, which made the man shut up.
The suit that he was wearing was something that Killian would rather never wear. Fortunately, Ajax was smart enough to bring him pants that would allow him to move without feeling restrained. But he truly could not understand the reason for trying to impress a small pack like Silver Dawn; why should he be wearing a suit for their damned banquet? They should be glad that he was even attending this party.
This is a tactical retreat. Ajax’s voice echoed in his head. Make them think that we have no idea what is going on. Isn’t that a pretty clean way to deal with these people?
