Killian noticed the change in the shifter’s scent as Drakon shifted in his seat. "They are dealt with according to the law that we have established."
Killian narrowed his eyes. He immediately pack-linked Finn. He said, ’Something is wrong with these people.’
"Are these your real thoughts, or are you simply upset that these people are wasting your time?" Finn asked almost immediately.
"Don’t be stupid. Don’t you think that the situation around here is really weird?"
"I agree. This place is quite luxurious for a pack that claims that they want nothing to do with power or authority. The control here is subtle, but I can feel it – the authority of the alpha is pulsating everywhere," Finn’s thought reached back to him almost immediately. "This place is well-suited for humans. But for shifters, it’s way too restrained. If what this guy is talking about their control is true, then I have to admit that I am impressed."
If a word of it was true, then Killian would take his hat off for these people. But he knew that it was not.
What about the pack?
It seems a bit too perfect... but I cannot say anything is wrong with what we have seen at the moment.
And yet Killian couldn’t shake off the feeling that there was something amiss. The pack was too quiet for his liking. Every single pack that he had visited before had pups running around the territory. Testing their strengths and the boundaries of the pack, and learning about their position in the hierarchy of the pack. Shifters, strong and bold, could be seen running a lap around the territory. As for the older ones, they were often seen teaching the younger generations. That was how a pack had always been or the kind of pack that he was used to seeing.
Keep an eye on these people. There is something off about them.
When have you seen me slipping, my alpha? Finn asked with a sickly gracious smile, and that made Killian frown.
He turned and looked at the man beside him. Enough with that tone of yours.
Killian broke the connection as Drakon turned the car and pulled it into a driveway. He raised his head and looked at the house, which looked the grandest and the largest house yet to be seen. Cobblestone paths lined both sides of the mansion, with two garages and a fountain. There were several cars lined up inside the garages. Looking brand new, as if they had hardly been driven.
"This is our alpha’s mansion," Drakon announced as he stepped on the brakes. "And this is where we usually gather. We are going to gather here tonight for the banquet as well."
"You don’t have a pack hall?"
"Oh no." The man turned the engine off and shook his head. "We cannot have that here, not with the humans running around. If they find out about the existence of the pack hall, then it will be problematic for us."
His beast started to prowl inside of him. I do not like this. It feels off. Really off.
