Chapter 313: Secrets Unveiling

Dominic slowly turned and looked at the man sitting next to him. He narrowed his eyes and questioned, "I hope—you are not suggesting that one of us was responsible for administering this attack?"

Killian simply grinned at the man’s question. "I never suggested that, but at least we will be able to eradicate this suspicion that it was one of us. There is nothing wrong with clearing off the suspicion, right?"

"You are trying to muddle the situation by directing suspicion to us!" Elder Norman started with a growl. "You think that you can do just about anything just because Seth has been wiping your ass all these years?"

"There is no need for you to be upset, Elder Norman." Killian tilted his head to the left. "This is just a simple step, one that can help us bring the culprit to light. After all, Alpha Remy is one of us. The fact that he has lost his mate must have brought him great grief, and as his dear friends, the least we can do is to make sure that he will get some ounce of comfort by getting the name of the culprit who killed his mate."

"We already have a culprit. No, two of them—"

Killian simply rolled his eyes. He clicked his tongue and stated, "Only fools will believe that two women who were silly enough to be captured at the crime scene were involved in the killing of Lola." A pause, and with a wicked grin, he stated, "And I don’t see any reason why you are so strangely against my suggestion. Unless you are scared that it might bring your deepest, darkest secrets out?"

No one said a word, but at the same time, they were not happy with the suggestion either. No one truly liked Alpha Remy. The man was too sly, and his actions were hardly worthy of being a shifter. The way he flexibly shifted anywhere—many shifters looked down on him due to this. So, no one was really sorry about him losing his mate.

Elder Norman huffed. "You can try to bait me as much as you want, but I have done nothing wrong to be scared of."

Killian shot him a wicked grin. "That’s the spirit."

"Send me a detailed report on what you all were doing three weeks prior to the murder, including on the day it happened," commanded Seth. "Anyone who tries to sneak their way out of this will be strictly punished. The meeting is hereby adjourned."

Even with the meeting coming to an end, Killian couldn’t shake off the annoyance and frustration that was building at the back of his neck. Usually, he felt better after pulling the legs of these elders, but today, even this was not enough to make him feel any better. It felt weird. Like some sort of evil foreboding.

"You should be a bit more polite to the elders," said Noah as he got to his feet. With his expression ever so calm, he stated, "Even if your blood is as barbaric as it can get, you can still act civil."

"And here I thought that you knew everything about lycans." Killian moved past the round table. Heading straight to the oak doors as he tried to shake off the tail that had caught onto him. "Lycans do not respect anyone who does not deserve it."

"They are the elders—"

"Then let me correct myself." Killian paused and turned to look at the man behind him. With a sickly sweet smile, he stated in a quiet voice, "I meant I am only going to respect them if and only if they earn my respect. Sitting in fancy chairs and acting all lofty and mighty is not going to get them my respect."

Count me in.

I would have if she were fine. But I know she is not—I don’t know how I know this, but I just do. We need to hurry, or else our mate will be in danger.

I know.
