Chapter 308: Meeting With The Half One

Ignoring the panic that was swelling in her chest, Inez spoke in a low voice, "This is neither the time nor the place to talk about this matter."

"I think it is the right time to discuss this." Scarlet slid down the bars and sat down on the floor. Pulling the knees close to her chest, she glanced at her sister. "I don’t think either of us is going to get out of this prison any time soon. So why not talk about it? At least that way we would be able to pass some time?"

"Are you even taking this seriously?" A mouse scurried past them, escaping through the gaps of the bars. Inez’s eyes followed him, and for a few seconds, she wished she could shift into a mouse and run past these bars. But then she remembered that she had shifter restraints on her wrists; even if she could shift, the possibility of her shifting and escaping was close to none.

"I am." Scarlet looked at her chipped nails that were now broken in a few places due to the harsh pulling and tagging. She frowned with a look of annoyance. "However, do you think we can do anything at this moment?" She moved her hand as if pointing out the obvious situation they were trapped in. "If you have any ideas to get us out of here, then be my guest."

Inez scowled, feeling a bit annoyed, but her annoyance was not directed at Scarlet but at herself. Why did she even go to that damned place today? Maybe she could have gone there yesterday, or maybe tomorrow. Any other time, which might not have resulted in her getting imprisoned. She pursed her lips and said, "I don’t have any particular plan at the moment, but we can always brainstorm, right?"

"You will be lucky."

A hoarse voice spoke from the prison beside them, and Inez quickly whipped her head to see who the person speaking to her was. Her eyes met with a shaggy man whose face was leaning against the bars of the cell. He was grinning toothily at them. His grey eyes that peeked through the matted hair were filled with amusement. "First time?"

Inez turned her head away, not bothering with the man. However, Scarlet glanced at their prison mate and stated, "We were caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, Mister. Don’t lump us in together with you."

"Everyone says that when they arrive here," remarked the man with a taunting grin. "Anyway, you two can try escaping from here. However, the chances are close to null—no one has ever succeeded till now. How many people cry and scream their throat out, yelling that they were innocent? What happened to them? They are still trapped here. Who knows for how long?" He laughed like a maniac. He turned his head and tipped his chin at the long file of cells down the row of the corridor. "They all came before me. While some were executed, the rest had been trapped here for ages; I am speaking about more than twenty years or so."

He then peered up at the two of them. He shook his long mane of hair to take a better look at the two sisters; his grin turned even wider. "Well, well, well. You two don’t look like someone who can kill anyone, but then again, shifters always have that innocence to them, despite being a psycho killer. Now tell me, who did you kill?"

"We did not kill anyone," breaking her momentary silence, Inez turned and looked at the man with subtle annoyance. "It was a misunderstanding..."

"Then pardon my rudeness; whom did you see dying?" The man corrected himself.

"Someone I knew."

Hearing her words, the man whistled. "You might as well get used to this place then; there is no point in screaming."

"What do you mean?" Inez felt her head throb; she had a feeling that whatever this man was going to say was not going to soothe her worries.

"Ah, you silly girl. Do you even know the meaning of being brought to this place?" the man questioned.

When the two of them didn’t say anything, the man chortled as if they had shared some secret between themselves. "The fact that you are brought here means that you are under suspicion. And given that you have no prominent status, I don’t think that you will have someone coming to save you." He shook his head as if he wasn’t bothered by the fact that he, too, was stuck in prison.

They had the same look in their eyes when they were stalking her sister.

The guard ignored her. The audacity of the bastard. So when he tried to step past her and head close to Inez, what do you think she did? She stepped right in his path. "Step back," Scarlet growled at the guard, sensing just what the man was trying to do. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

However, her hands were restrained, and she couldn’t do much, not with her hands all tied up.

The guard raised his head and glanced at her. His gaze was full of indifference, as if he were staring at a little ant that he could crush at any moment. "It seems like you do not understand your own position, do you?" The guard’s eyes turned a horrible shade of red.

A vampire.

Inez’s heartbeat, which had somewhat calmed down, rose right back when she realised that the man in front of her was a vampire. If this man tasted her blood, then her situation would become even more perilous.

"I do understand my situation," said Scarlet. Just like Inez, she too sensed that their situation was no longer looking as optimistic as she had thought earlier. However, it had become even more dangerous, with the guard in front of them turning out to be a vampire or a half one. She glanced at her sister, whose face had turned exceptionally pale, and covered her with her body.

Now, Inez’s life and death were in her own fucking hands. God damn it.
