"I wish I could," said Third Eye with a shake of his head. "But it is not that simple. This traitor of yours is hiding too deep, and I might be sounding like an idiot, but they seem to have a sort of protection. The kind that keeps witch hunters like me at bay, see this?" He circled his finger around the changed runes and tapped on them. A second later, the entire surroundings turned colder than they already were, and a dark puddle erupted beside Third Eye; from it rose a silverly blue spirit, who walked to the edge of the magic circle and was set on fire almost immediately the second it touched it.
"Woah, what happened?!" Ajax stepped back as the soul, which was already dead, let out an ear-splitting scream of anguish and disappeared.
"We use the spirits of our ancestors, the ones who died with a grudge against witches, to trace them down," replied Third Eye as he got to his feet. "Usually, it works all the time, unless the witches or wizards have some kind of really strong protection around them. This traitor of yours has that very protection."
"What kind of protection?" Killian asked.
"It could be anything," shrugged Third Eye. "From a little divine artefact or something that was blessed by the devil himself. We can never be sure when it comes to witches; they are neither evil nor pure. They are more in the grey area, aren’t they?"
"They kill for fun," deadpanned Finn.
"I know. But they don’t kill as much as the demonic worshippers, and they do it quite cleanly instead of dragging their agony."
"Who says–"
"There is no point in starting another pointless discussion," said Killian through gritted teeth. "It doesn’t matter if the witches are more evil or the demonic worshippers. For all I care, even the Zealots are in the same league. They are all evil."
His beast rumbled within him. They are trying to ease the tension; you do understand that, right? Not everyone keeps things in their hearts and wishes for a heart attack to happen. It’s better to chill the fuck out a little sometimes.
I do not wish for a heart attack; I am just worried about Inez and the pack. They are not helping me with all of their nonsense.
But there is no point in brooding over something that is not under your control. I do understand that this is your first time liking someone so much, but there is no point in letting your temper get the better of you. You need to calm the fuck down.
You speak as if you don’t want to rip the throat of the motherfucker who touched her!
His beast ignored him this time around. He didn’t say anything, and Killian didn’t prod him either. The two of them were very much clear about the truth, and the truth was that they wanted the blood of the bastard who tried to kidnap Inez. There was a chill that kept climbing up and down his spine, which kept telling him that there was something dangerous lurking around the corner, and it didn’t sit too well with him. There were too many dangers, too many out-of-equation situations, and everything was way too much.
He took a deep breath and stated, "So you mean to say that you cannot trace this traitor?"
That was an odd sort of remark. Killian furrowed his brows and raised his head before saying to Third Eye, "What do you mean? She is not even here."
"That’s not right; she is with your lover," relayed Third Eye. "I can sense her presence, right down — three o’clock to the west, thats where the lodge of your little lover is, right?"
"WHAT!" Killian’s eyes widened as he whirled around on his feet, but not before shouting at Third Eye, "Why didn’t you tell me this sooner?!"
"I thought you already knew. Who is the alpha of this pack?"
Killian ignored the subtle jibe thrown his way; he increased his pace and ran past the forest and the clearings. For the first time, he felt regretful. He shouldn’t have given Inez the lodge that faced the sea. It was way too far.
Ten minutes later, he stood in front of the lodge; the scent of coconut vanilla milk filled his nostrils. It brought a sense of peace and comfort to him.
See, I told you she is different.
