As Karmen and Aisha finished their vows of lifelong devotion and togetherness, the hall erupted in applause.
Karmen pulled Aisha closer, tilting her back for a kiss. From the front row, Gabriel let out a sharp, joyful whistle that drew laughter from the surrounding crowd.
Some time later, the guests migrated to the grand dining hall for the reception dinner. Amidst the movement and chatter, Dominick and Juniper quietly excused themselves, stepping away from the main gathering to find a moment of solitude.
Juniper stood near the edge of the terrace, holding a glass of champagne. She looked out at the lights of the hall before turning to Dominick.
"Jeniva, your new mate, seems strong," she remarked. "And I can see you have grown; you are treating your woman much better than before."
Dominick frowned slightly at her comment. It wasn’t like he never treated her well but then, if Juniper felt that with him, he decided to accept it instead of retorting.
"I am glad you have moved forward as well," Dominick continued, observing her reaction. "Denzel fought for you, and it is clear he intends to stand by you in every situation."
Juniper nodded, a genuine look of relief crossing her face. "He does. He has never made me feel insecure or inadequate. In front of him, I feel comfortable enough to drop the pretense. Everything I suppressed, everything I forced myself to hide to fit in, it all just faded away once I started spending time with him."
Dominick remained silent, listening intently as Juniper laid her thoughts out plainly.
"You were right, Nick," she began, her voice steady. "I spent a long time convinced that we were perfect for one another, but that wasn’t true. You couldn’t understand me because I refused to be honest about who I was. And once the truth finally surfaced, you weren’t prepared to accept the reality of it. I realized this clearly while spending time with Denzel. We were simply moving forward because of a fated bond that had been forced upon us. Back then, I was angry and resentful, but that is gone now. In a way, I have you to thank; because of how things ended, I am now living a life without fear, with a man who is committed to doing everything for me."
Dominick nodded slowly, acknowledging the weight of her admission. "It is good that you have finally reached that understanding. I had my own faults, too, which I have only been able to correct with Jeniva by my side. It is a difficult reality to accept, but sometimes, a fated bond is simply not meant to last a lifetime."
Juniper finished the last of her champagne and set the glass aside. "We should return to the main hall," she said, turning and walking away before Dominick could offer a parting word.
Dominick stood on the terrace for a moment longer. He looked up at the dark sky, which was crowded with stars and the glow of the moon, before finally turning to follow her back inside.
He took his seat beside Jeniva, immediately noticing that she hadn’t touched her meal. "Why haven’t you started eating?" he asked, his brow furrowing in confusion.
Jeniva turned to him, her expression soft. "I was waiting for you," she replied. She shifted her gaze toward the other end of the banquet hall, where Juniper was laughing as she talked with Denzel. "She looks truly happy," Jeniva murmured.
Dominick followed her gaze, watching the way Denzel stood beside her, attentive and calm. "She is," he stated firmly. "She finally found someone who will treat her like his queen."
