Early morning, the alley was quiet. Kisa followed the man in silence. She quickened her pace, hoping to walk shoulder-to-shoulder with Gilbert, but he matched her speed.

'Well, he hates me to the core now, so it's a miracle he even took me out. So why would he bother with me?' she thought to herself.

After passing through three small alleys, they emerged onto an old street with food vendors on either side. Gilbert wordlessly bought a few sandwiches and two cups of orange juice.

When the sandwiches and orange juice were handed over, Kisa was overjoyed and smiled at him, "Thank you."

Gilbert avoided eye contact and replied in a monotone voice, Tm just worried about my child going hungry." He then walked toward a small pharmacy not far away.

Kisa pursed her lips and smiled, quickly following him.

"Symptoms?" the pharmacist glanced at Kisa's belly and asked.

Kisa thought for a moment and said, "Occasional sharp pain and tightness in my belly, and a bit of spotting the night before last."

Gilbert's brows furrowed slightly, and a flicker of concern passed through his eyes.

The pharmacist looked at her belly again and said, "You're not showing much, so it's been only a couple of months since you got pregnant, right?"

"Almost three months."

"Your situation is quite serious, you've had spotting, so it's better to see a doctor. This isn't a small matter."

"No need to go to the hospital. I had spotting the other night, but I'm fine now. Can you give me some pills to help with the pregnancy?"

The pharmacist looked at Gilbert, who remained silent, then turned and got two boxes of pills. "This is herbal medicine. Try taking this first. If you still feel pain or tightness, go to the hospital right away."

Hearing Gilbert's words, Kisa said nothing more. After all, she was also worried about her unborn child. Gilbert took her to a big hospital, and they used someone else's ID, paying a fee for it. The place was packed, and they had to wait in line for the ultrasound and blood tests. By the time all the tests were done, it was already noon.

Gilbert stared the test results and finally let out a sigh of relief when Kisa reassured him that their baby was developing normally.

On the way back, he remained silent while Kisa trailed behind him, feeling guilty as she looked at the dim and shabby alleyways.
