Morris didn’t say a word, but inside, he was honestly touched.
“Dad’s got good taste,” he said, half-joking as he looked around at the flashy, over-the-top décor.
Nathalie stuck out her tongue. “Wait till you see the bedroom. It’s even wilder.”
When Morris rolled into the master suite and caught sight of all the red—the sheets, the curtains, the roses—he almost had to squint.
It was a lot.
“My dad’s really something. Hasn’t he ever heard of ‘less is more’?”
Morris chuckled. “If I had to guess, I’d say there are exactly 9,999 rubies in here. He wants us to have happiness that lasts forever.”
Nathalie let out a soft sigh. “The old man really knows how to be romantic. He puts us young people to shame.”
Morris wheeled himself up to the bed, turning so the red glow caught his face, making him look even more distinguished.
“Babe, we can’t let Dad’s effort go to waste.”
There was a playful, teasing lilt in his voice that made Nathalie blush bright red. “No, we can’t… So, should we shower first?”
Morris paused, realizing immediately that Nathalie had misunderstood. He couldn’t help but smile, his mood instantly lifting.
Nathalie caught his look and realized her mix-up.
“I’ll shower first!” she squeaked, then practically dove into the bathroom.
Morris stared after her, then burst out laughing. For the first time, it really hit him: the woman he loved was all his now. Not just his Nathalie, not anyone else’s wife—she was his dream come true.
He heard the shower running. Smiling and shaking his head, Morris went to the closet.
There were plenty of clothes, but he picked out the softest, most elegant nightgown for her.
When Nathalie finished her shower and realized she’d forgotten to bring in clean pajamas, she called out, voice barely above a whisper, “Nathan… clothes?”
Morris waited outside, grinning mischievously. “We’re married, you know. Shouldn’t you call me ‘husband’ now?”
Nathalie stammered, “Hu-husband…”
