"I know." Victor nodded.
"You've done horrible things at the Sterling residence—things that I simply cannot bring myself to speak of. I'm sorry, but I just can't let you in.
"I can't allow you to enter Brighton University, so I'm sorry. I came here just to inform you of this matter, so I'll be leaving now." Victor got up to leave.
He seemed very determined about it, and he behaved as if there was no room for negotiations.
At that moment, Hayden felt like he was struck by lightning, and his mind turned blank.
True enough, the Sterlings had really fed Victor tons of lies! Those jerks!
At that thought, Hayden's expression turned colder, and he even shuddered a little.
He hastily stepped in front of Victor and immediately explained, "No! That's not true! You don't understand my relationship with them! You don't know what I've gone through at the Sterling residence, or the mistreatment I've had to endure!
"You can't just judge my character based on something they said! I've only stayed with the Sterlings for three years. In the previous decade or so, I've been living with the Caldwells.
"The Caldwells' parents are my real parents! If you want to know more about my character, you should ask them instead!" Hayden spoke in a stern voice, emphasizing every syllable.
At that moment, silence reigned over the place. The breeze blew past, swaying the leaves hanging above the two, and only the rustling of the leaves could be heard.
Victor had a troubled look on his face, seemingly to be in a dilemma.
Of course, he was aware of all that. Sadly, he had private concerns, and he didn't know how to explain them, either.
He had committed a mistake, and it had become a permanent stain on his life!
"I'm sorry!" Without any explanations, Victor turned around to leave.
"Mr. Grant!" Hayden stood in front of Victor again. He had a grave expression on his face, but he didn't know what to say.
"You! How did you…" Startled, Victor looked at Hayden in bewilderment.
He hadn't expected Hayden to come to that conclusion!
At that moment, Hayden had been staring at Victor, observing the tiniest changes in the latter's expression.
Hence, Hayden received his confirmation.
It was just as he had thought. The Sterlings had pulled out all the stops so that Morgan could get Hayden's spot in Brighton University instead.
"I was the one who achieved those results, so how are you going to manipulate the records? What if I talked to the higher-ups and exposed the truth?" Hayden's expression was stern as he stared earnestly at Victor.
He was threatening Victor.
"The results belong to me alone, and everyone knows that I'm Hayden Sterling. Tell me. Are you going to get Morgan to change his name to Hayden?" Hayden put on a cold smile as he made a guess.
