The entire office fell into a heavy silence. All of them were stunned, and they fixed their eyes on Hayden in disbelief.
Such audacity, such defiance—what exactly was the relationship between Hayden and Charlotte?
"How dare you speak like that! Who gave you the courage?" Francis shouted, his face flushed with anger.
"I did. What about it?" Suddenly, James stepped forward and positioned himself in front of Hayden. His demeanor had changed, and he exuded a powerful presence that momentarily startled Francis.
At that moment, it felt like a heavy weight was pressing on Francis, making him momentarily freeze in surprise.
That look had a commanding presence, almost like that of someone in a position of power. It was something he hadn't witnessed in a long time, but where did James get such confidence?
At that moment, everyone was confused. Who was this man to speak to Francis this way?
Even Hayden was taken aback, and his eyes were filled with surprise.
In his memory, James had always been an honest and mild-mannered man who wouldn't even raise his voice in an argument.
Yet, here he was, standing up to Francis for Hayden's sake. This warmth filled Hayden's heart, and he couldn't help but feel touched.
"That's right! We said it, and what of it?" Serena stepped forward as well, standing protectively in front of Hayden. "Hayden earned that perfect score, so why should the spot go to your son? If he's that capable, let him earn it himself—does he have the ability?"
Her body trembled, not from fear but from anger. The two of them stood as a shield for Hayden, unafraid even in the face of the head of the Sterling family.
"Morgan, don't lower yourself like this. I'll try my best to negotiate with him," Charlotte said, her voice soft and concerned as she moved closer to Hayden and his family.
She then looked at Hayden with tears welling up in her eyes.
"Hayden, can't you give up this opportunity and stop competing with Morgan?" she pleaded with a cracking voice. "I promise I'll do everything possible to get you whatever you want!"
"If you want us to leave you alone from now on, I promise we will. Is that okay?" Charlotte continued in a desperate tone.
"Mom, don't humiliate yourself like this. Why should we submit to them? And you—you're too arrogant! You've got no right to act like this just because you achieved a perfect score in math!" Lily said.
