"That's good..." Christina let out a noticeable sigh of relief, her tension easing considerably.
She had been on edge, worried that she might never see Hayden again.
"What? Did you think I'd end up thrown into the river?" Hayden raised an eyebrow.
"Hey, don't say things like that! I guess I've just been watching too much TV! But as long as you're okay, that's all that matters. I can relax now!" Christina's tone lightened, and she gave a soft laugh.
"See you tomorrow," Hayden said softly.
"Wait! Have you eaten yet? I bet you didn't touch the Sterling family's food, right?" Christina interrupted, not letting him hang up.
"How did you know?" Hayden blinked in surprise, slightly caught off guard.
"I warned you, the Sterling family might try poisoning you. I figured you'd remember my advice, so I assumed you didn't eat!
"Even though I got the idea from TV, you never know, it could happen! The fact that you didn't eat shows you really took my words seriously," Christina chuckled, clearly pleased.
What she didn't know was that Hayden hadn't eaten at the Sterling family's house simply out of pride.
The meal had started early, and by the time he got there, there were only leftovers. How could Hayden bring himself to eat that?
"Yeah. You guessed right," Hayden replied with a faint smile. His smile carried a hint of sweetness.
The two of them fell silent for a few seconds. Though neither spoke, they both enjoyed the shared quiet moment.
"So… would you like to come to my place for dinner?" Christina asked.
"You little rascal, stop spouting nonsense! Where did you even learn that?" Hayden scolded.
"Hmph! I just knew it!" Jenny struggled to fix her hair as she pouted in frustration. Seeing Hayden's expression earlier, she could tell that something was up.
She had seen that kind of look too many times—whether from schoolkids in puppy love or in TV dramas.
"What do you even know? Hurry up and get back inside!" Hayden grabbed Jenny by the neck and started leading her home.
"Not only are you dating, but you're also bullying me! I'll tell Mom and Dad when I get back. I'll have them stop you! You can't date that woman!" Jenny threatened angrily.
"Don't talk nonsense! I'm not dating anyone, so stop making stuff up!" Hayden quickly denied it, slightly flustered.
"Take me shopping, and I won't say anything!" Jenny immediately bargained.
