Rebirth: We Split Ways.. novel Chapter 8

Dominic pulled Penelope into his arms with a smirk.

"Come on, babe. You know your husband isn't that kind of guy."

Lying against his chest, Penelope let out a soft laugh.

Dominic really was different.

Handsome, successful, and filthy rich—he naturally attracted attention from younger women.

But Dominic always kept his boundaries clear.

He was polite, respectful, but never once gave anyone the wrong idea.

No matter where they were, he made sure people knew she was his wife.

At this point, he might as well get "devoted husband" tattooed on his forehead.

Seeing Penelope giggle, he leaned in with a teasing smile.

"Babe… any chance we'll have a little one running around soon?"

Penelope caught his meaning instantly.

Over the years, Dominic had been very dedicated to their marriage—always making sure she was satisfied.

So, she played along.

"Well… how about tonight?"

That was all the encouragement he needed.

He jumped up, kissed her cheek, and headed straight for the bathroom.

"Wait for me," he said with a grin.

The mood was just starting to heat up when, of course, someone had to ruin it.

"Penelope, did you see the news? The scandal about Lauren? That was me."

"I hired someone to follow her and sent those pictures to the press."

Penelope frowned.

"Well, I'm sure those wives out there really appreciate your public service."

Jason didn't catch the sarcasm in her voice.

He gritted his teeth.

"If it wasn't for Lauren stirring up drama and spreading lies about you in our last life, we never would've spent years misunderstanding each other."

"I had to make her pay."

"She needed to know what it feels like to have her entire reputation destroyed."

"Penelope… I did this for you. Can we talk? Just once?"

Before she could respond, Dominic reached over and snatched her phone.

"Jason, it's late. My wife and I have… important matters to handle."

"Why don't you go find something else to do?"

Jason lost it.

"You bastard! Don't you dare touch my wife—"

"Sorry, man. My wife. My marriage."

"We're just enjoying our perfectly legal married life. Have a good night."

Dominic hung up and turned to Penelope, pinning her wrists above her head.

"The snow-covered mountains? The night we swore we'd be together forever?"

"The fireworks I lit for you? The drone that spelled out my love—"

Penelope cut him off.

"And now? Now, we have families of our own."

"I can divorce her!" he blurted out.

"Lauren got what she deserved. I don't love her. I'll leave her."

"We can start over. Marry me, Penelope."

The way he said it—like it was the most obvious, natural thing in the world—was exhausting.

She was done.

"No, Jason."

"I love my husband. I love the life we've built together."

His expression twisted in frustration.

"Penelope, you're being delusional."

"You really think marrying into the upper class is some kind of fairy tale?"

"These rich guys? They all mess around. You think Dominic 's any different? He's just playing you."

That was Penelope's last straw.

"Shut up, Jason."

"I trust Dominic . He's not that kind of man."
