Rebirth In Divorce My New Mr. Perfect (by Summer Knowles) novel Chapter 818

The more he tried to drink himself unconscious, the more his heart throbbed with doubled agony.

Regret would consume every remaining moment of his future.

He had lost Sarah completely.

This brutal reality drove James to seek refuge in alcohol again and again.

Then a chance discovery revealed that another man was pursuing Sarah.

His investigation uncovered the man's sordid private life, filling James with both anxiety and rage. He wanted nothing more than to drive away every man who dared covet Sarah.

At least then, even if he couldn't have her, he might find some peace.

But all he could do was retreat into delusion, numbing himself in an endless void.

Nothing he imagined could ever become reality.

James let out a bitter laugh and threw back another shot.

Suddenly his eyes locked onto something across the room. His grip tightened around the glass until his knuckles went white and veins bulged beneath his skin.

Leon had wandered into the bar on impulse, hunting for his usual thrills.

All it took was pulling up in his million-dollar sports car—gorgeous women would flock to him without a word. This was his real life, the true Leon Spencer.

With a beauty draped on each arm, Leon strutted toward the VIP section, radiating satisfaction.

Halfway there, a swaying drunk suddenly blocked his path.

James squinted through his drunken haze, stumbling backward just enough to avoid the blow.

"You really will take anyone, won't you, Leon? Absolutely revolting."

Leon swung again. "I don't owe you any explanations. Watch your mouth. What makes you think you're any better than me?"

He knew all about James and Sarah's history—every ugly detail of their hatred.

The words hit their mark. James froze for just a moment, and Leon's fist connected hard with his jaw.

Pain exploded across his face as his cheek began to swell.

James collapsed onto a nearby couch, all fight draining out of him. A hollow laugh escaped his lips. "You're absolutely right. What makes me any different from you?"
