Chapter 115
Wesley settled Emma in the best local holdl. After changing out of her clothes, she went to the hospital with him to visit the clderly.
Once they parked their car in the hospital‘s underground parking lot, the two walked toward the clevator logether when Wesley suddenly held Emma‘s hand.
Emma instinctively retracted, but Wesley didn‘t force it on her and merely explained tenderly, “When we enter the ward later, I might hold your hand, so I‘m trying to get you used to it beforehand.”
Emma instantly understood what Wesley meant, so she hurricdly apologized in embarrassment, “I‘m sorry. I‘m just not used to it.”
She and Trevor basically never held hands and rarely walked together, so she was not used to holding hands with any man at all.
Before he misunderstood, she hurriedly declared, “I won‘t avoid you later. I‘ll take your hand.”
Wesley laughed softly. “I only need your cooperation when we are in front of them. We‘ll just stay as ordinary friends for the rest of the time.”
The implication was that he would not disrespect her at all times, nor would he behave inappropriately to her.
“Got it.” Emma chose to trust Wesley.
From the day she started working as a part–time screenwriter in Alpha Productions through Susanna‘s introduction, she and Wesley had known each other for more than four years now.
When she worked part–time for the first three years, she didn‘t interact much with Wesley, and she worked under Eleanor and mostly communicated with her in various ways.
However, that did not affect her understanding of Wesley. He had been in this circle for so many years yet he managed to steer close to zero scandals, so he must be trustworthy.
Emma had learned from Wesley that his parents were friendly people.
After meeting them, she could attest to that fact.
Although Zahra looked haggard because of her illness, her gaze was warm.
After seeing Emma, she struggled to hold her hand and praised, “I can tell you‘re a gentle and kind lady. This is just wonderful!”
These words were equivalent to directly acknowledging her adoration for Emma. Back then, Emma suffered from Alice‘s cold gaze and ridicule countless times, so Zahra‘s praise warmed her heart.
Even though she was just pretending to be Wesley‘s girlfriend, Emma was still moved by his mother‘s simple words.
Being mocked and being praised sincerely were iwo completely different feelings.
She smiled gently in response. “Thank you for the compliment, Mrs. Zurich.”
“Your heart determines how you look. I know I‘m old, but my judgment of people has always been accurate.”
Zahra was obviously satisfied and fond of Emma, so Emma took a seat next to the hospital bed and chatted with her.
Throughout the conversation, Zahra asked how Emma and Wesley got together. The two had discussed this topic in advance, so she responded very naturally, “We‘ve known cach other for years, but we used to be friends back then. We got close after I returned to the country.”
Zahra nodded, took her hand again, and lamented, “Wesley has never gotten a girlfriend after the one he met when he was young. Because of that, rumors started circulating that he didn‘t like women. I feel so bad for him...”
Emma could understand Zahra. Male artists of the same age as Wesley were mostly married and had children, but Wesley had never settled down yet. Therefore, rumors about his sexual orientation never died down.
However, why could someone as clean and pure as him become a point of attack by others?
“But it‘s fine now. I have nothing to worry about if he has you.” When Zahra said these words, it seemed to breathe new life into her haggard face. Her joy exuded from the bottom of her heart.
Considering Zahra‘s condition, Emma stayed only for a while before leaving the ward.
“You don‘t have to be so polite with me.” Wesley smiled.
“You should take a rest. I‘m going to the hospital.”
Emma thought for a while and stopped Wesley. “Does your mom have any favorite dishes? I‘ll cook them for her later.”
Wesley‘s eyes lit up. “Really?”
Emma responded seriously, “Well, I don‘t know what else I can do for you, so I‘ll try to cheer her up a little.”
Whether it was Wesley or Zahra, they both treated her with sincerity, so she figured it was only right to repay them.
Wesley thought about it and uttered, “My mother will no longer stay in the hospital because of her condition. She should be discharged in two days. It‘ll be more convenient for you to come home and cook for her.”
“Okay,” Emma responded and sent Wesley off.
After making herself a cup of coffee, Emma took out her laptop and resumed work.
However, after writing a few words, she was interrupted by Susanna‘s call. Susanna smiled happily on the phone. “You and President Zurich are trending.”
Emma was surprised. “No way?”
How did she get photographed as soon as she went to the hospital with Wesley?!
Susanna emphasized, “I‘m not lying. The picture of President Zurich holding your hand in the hospital when you visited his mother was photographed.”
Emma took a deep breath and then heard Susanna exclaiming, “Don‘t tell me you‘re no longer pretending! Look at you holding hands!”
