Boyle returned to his home in New York after he was done with work.
There was a maid in his house. She was feeding Boney when Boyle returned home.
"You're back, sir."
Boyle took his coat off and handed it over to his maid. He rolled up his sleeves and said, "You can go ahead and do something else. Allow me to feed Boney."
"Alright."
Boyle sat on the carpet and unbuttoned two of the buttons from his shirt with his long slender arms. He seemed slightly relaxed now.
Boney was busy eating its food and did not bother to act coquettishly with Boyle.
Boyle raised his brows and patted it with his huge hand as he said, "Does it really taste that good?"
After Boney was done eating, Boyle carried Boney with both arms.
It seemed this little rascal had grown fat and lazy in the last seven years.
It would usually lay on the couch like some sort of noble prince.
"Meow."
Boyle said, "I went to watch her performance again today. She's stunning. She looked quite beautiful. I'm not sure if she misses you or not."
"Meow."
Boyle said, "If she meets you again, I'll return you to her, okay?"
"Meow."
Boyle spoke again, "You sure can gain weight alright. However, how is she still so skinny after all these years?"
"Meow."
Boyle lowered his gaze and spoke in a slightly depressed tone, "If I still have a chance to be with her again, I will fatten her up."
"Meow."
Cherie once had a habit of talking to herself.
Now it seemed he was the one doing that because he had no one to vent to about these thoughts, so, all he could do was talk to Boney.
…
Boyle returned to the capital the next morning.
Boney was sent back through a carrier. Boyle brought Boney to New York in the past few years. Now he was bringing it back from New York. It seemed he was already quite used to having Boney by his side.
That was because Boney was picked up by a certain someone so as long as he was looking at Boney, he would think of her.
Boney's clinginess toward him resembled Cherie from seven years ago.
She would follow him wherever he went. She was just like his tail.
She would often mumble and complain about being ignored whenever he was working by resting her chin on her palms. She would have an endless streak of complaints toward him.
Boyle missed that warm and sweet period of his life.
It was him who had abandoned her in the first place.
His heart wrenched when he arrived at Greentown condominium. He entered the pin and got into the house while carrying Boney.
That string of numbers was the very date they first met. It had etched itself into his heart.
The door clicked open.
It had been seven years. Even if he was to return to the capital previously for work, he could not bring himself to return here.
That was because there were just way too many memories with her in this little apartment.
Her slippers were still in the shoe rack by the entrance. He never threw them away and it had always remained here.
Her pink mug alongside his blue mug were still on the sink. Those were mugs for couples.
Her favorite pillow was still on the couch.
There were still plenty of clothes left behind in the wardrobe that she never got around to bring home from back then.
The entire house was filled with traces of her.
Boyle stood in the living room and took a glance at the empty corner that used to house her piano. She used to practice playing her piano over there and would occasionally smile at him.
She used to sit on the couch while munching on chips as she watched her favorite shows on the T.V. He walked over and went to sleep while hugging the toothbrush she left behind.
She had a habit of burrowing herself into his embrace while he cooked. She would also caress him all over at the same time. After she had annoyed him enough, he would carry her onto the countertop and kiss her until she behaved.
Green Park had a decent burial site.
As both Boyle and Huntley entered the park, Huntley said, "I had someone come over and have a look yesterday. This is quite the decent cemetery. The scenery is beautiful too. However, why are you even looking for a grave so suddenly anyway? Are you preparing to bury yourself after you've finally worked yourself to death?"
Huntley joked but Boyle did not respond to his question.
"Fine then. Look, what do you think about that spot over there?"
Green Park had an abundance of trees. The scenery looked absolutely stunning. Boyle was quite pleased with it.
Huntley only found out after the entire ordeal that the grave was meant for Boyle's unborn child that had been miscarried.
Boyle named the child Moses Lawson.
It carried Boyle's last name and served as a reminder to Cherie.
Boyle carved some writing onto Moses' tomb. 'Father: Boyle Lawson. Mother: Cherie Fudd.'
This was an empty grave Boyle prepared for his child after putting it off for seven years.
Boyle would visit his child's grave every year after that.
…
Cherie was finally done with touring around the world for her show and this day happened to be the summer festival. Cherie packed her luggage in her Philadelphia home and departed to North City.
She received a phone call from Whitney the instant she landed.
Huntley and Whitney were about to get married and Whitney was calling to invite Cherie as her maid of honor.
"You are not allowed to say no, okay, Cherie? You are my best friend so you have to be my maid of honor ."
Cherie chuckled and said, "Of course, I'll show up to your wedding."
After some small talk, she took a deep breath and felt a little sad.
She used to think she would graduate and marry that man back then.
Things seemed to have progressed differently now.
Huntley and Whitney had been dating since they were in university and now they were getting married. She truly wished them well but at the same time she was also envious of them.
