Cherie had not woken up yet by the time Verian woke up the next morning. Cherie's leg was around Verian's while her arm was hugging Verian's belly. She was sleeping very soundly.
Verian laughed when she noticed how clingy Cherie seemed when she slept. She wondered how Cherie could claim that she had all grown up when she was still sleeping like a child.
Verian moved her aside gently to get out of bed before walking into the washroom to freshen herself up.
The more Verian thought about it, the more she felt meeting Boyle at this moment would be inappropriate.
Since Cherie was only dating Boyle and was not exactly thinking about marriage yet, what reason did Verian have to want to meet him anyway?
If Verian actually met up with Boyle, it would mean that Verian had indirectly approved of Boyle. This might cause Boyle and Cherie to start seriously dating each other.
However, she still felt the need to inform Heaton about Cherie dating Boyle which could wait till they arrived home or else, Heaton might storm to the capital in a fit of rage. This would further complicate things.
This was because the main purpose of Verian's visit this time was to catch up with Helen and return home to North City with Jelly Bean.
…
Since they were no longer meeting up with Boyle, Cherie was dragged along to hang out for the entire day with Verian and Helen. After they went shopping, they decided to have afternoon tea together.
She did not contact Boyle for two to three days now and Boyle seemed to also be busy with something else since he did not contact her as well.
It was the Gales that sent them off at the airport on the day Cherie and Verian were supposed to leave.
Helen tried to make them stay when they were about to leave. "Why don't you guys stay at the capital for a couple more days. You know, Tyler is also coming home during his winter break. He hasn't seen Jelly Bean in a really long time now."
Verian chuckled as she said, "Oh, we bought tickets home already. I'll catch up with you the next time I visit Jelly Bean, okay?"
Helen patted Jelly Bean's little head as she said with a smile, "Oh, Jelly Bean, you've been studying in the capital for six months now. How could you not stop by my house for a meal? You know what, come over anytime during the weekend to have fun in my house now, okay?"
Cherie nodded obediently as she said, "Yeah, I'll drop by for a meal next semester."
"Oh, you should be a little closer to Tyler now…"
Verian intentionally looked at her time when Helen brought that up as she cut Helen off with a laugh. She said, "Oh, Helen, it's almost time for us to board now."
Helen replied, "Go on ahead then. We'll catch up again next time."
"Alright."
After Verian led Jelly Bean through the customs, she said, "You know your Aunty Helen will be really sad if she found out that your boyfriend isn't Tyler."
"Tyler and I had always been best friends. It's you adults who kept pushing us together."
Verian chuckled and said, "Your father and I never pushed you both together, you know."
Jelly Bean frowned as she said, "But I feel a little bad since Aunty Helen is so nice to me."
Verian felt helpless as she pinched Jelly Bean's nose as she said, "Oh, you little rascal. I didn't know you'd actually know how to feel bad."
Cherie said while pouting her lips, "But I'm already dating someone when dad doesn't allow me to. Will dad think that I'm a failure or will he be extra disappointed in me because the person I like is actually Boyle?"
Verian smiled and said, "Oh, Cherie, is your father really that shallow in your eyes? You are his beloved daughter and he'll forgive you no matter what you do, let alone you're only dating. Come on now, as long as you don't do anything too extreme, your father will never intervene with your business."
"Well because I grew up with a bunch of uncles and aunties. You know, Uncle Wilson, Aunty Serene, Uncle Carter and even Aunty Helen all wanted me to date Tyler."
Verian smiled and said, "Nothing ever goes as we planned in this world, Jelly Bean. We all make mistakes in life. You know, a lot of people hated me when I dated your father back then. However, after everything that we've been through, I ended up marrying your father in the end. So, why do you still think that your happiness is responsible to align with how others perceive you to be, right?"
"But I don't want to make you or my dad unhappy."
"As long as the person you love is someone who loves you, a good soul and a normal person, your father and I won't feel unhappy about it. Therefore, as long as your father and I don't mind a single bit, you don't have to care about how Uncle Wilson, Aunty Serene, Uncle Carter or Aunty Helen perceives you to be, okay?"
Cherie hugged Verian while she teared up as she called out to Verian, "Monty."
Verian patted her back and spoke with a smile, "Oh, why are you suddenly crying now? Jelly Bean, I want to tell you that our expectations for you are only to be used as a guideline. Of course it'll be a good thing if you live up to our expectations but the path that you're currently on isn't a bad thing either. Not at the moment at least. Hence, you shouldn't let these affect you too much. You are luckier than a lot of people because even if you don't work hard at all, you'd still be worthy of pursuing your own dreams without worry. You have your own choice in choosing the kind of life you want to live and the kind of people you want to love. You are free to choose but not everyone is blessed with such a choice."
"I know because these are the choices my dad worked hard for me."
"The only thing your father wants from you is for you to live happily and without worry. Nothing is more important than that in his world, Jelly Bean."
"I'm your mother. Of course I need to think about your feelings, okay."
