They spent the entire day having fun at the Drake Reservoir and Skyhill Forest.
Before nightfall came, Boyle and the others found a pretty impressive spot at Skyhill Forest to set up their campsite.
The few men started setting up their tents.
Cherie pouted her lips when she noticed Boyle and Layla standing nearby.
Whitney rushed over, placing her arm over her shoulder as she said, "My surprise is pretty impressive, right?"
Cherie rolled her eyes at her and said, "What kind of a surprise is this? It's a horrible surprise, okay!"
"Come on now. I put in a lot of thought and effort into creating this opportunity for you!"
Cherie flung Whitney's arm away and said, "I'll help you guys look for some firewood!"
Mandy rushed over and said, "I'll go with you, Cherie. It's so late now and not safe for you to head out there alone."
Since the men were busy setting up the tents, they did not notice the two girls had already wandered off into the deeper parts of the forest for some firewood.
…
After half an hour, Boyle noticed Cherie was nowhere to be found after scanning the area.
He walked over to ask Huntley, "Where's Cherie?"
Huntley did not notice her disappearance too, so he stood up and looked around the area before saying, "I don't know. She was here a second ago."
Whitney said, "Cherie and Mandy went out to look for some firewood. That's odd. They haven't returned yet."
Boyle strode over to her before glaring at her with a cold and menacing gaze as he told her in an extremely cold tone, "You made two girls wander into the forest to collect firewood at this hour?"
Whitney said, "What are you being so mean for? It's not like I made Mandy and Cherie head out there in the first place. Besides, I was also caught with work at that moment so I didn't really think too much about it."
Huntley noticed them arguing with each other, so he rushed over and hugged Whitney's shoulder before telling Boyle, "Alright, Boyle. Why are you so mean to Whitney?"
Whitney mumbled softly, "You know, rather than yelling at me right now, you could've gone after them, right? If it wasn't for you, Cherie wouldn't be unhappy in the first place."
Boyle's rage was boiling in his heart. However, it did not take him long to rein back his anger as he turned around and headed straight toward the forest.
Layla called out to Boyle, "What are you doing, Boyle?"
"Looking for someone!"
"In case both Cherie and Mandy return later and since cell service in the forest is actually horrible, wouldn't your trip be for nothing if we can't get ahold of you?"
Boyle ignored what Layla said to him from behind.
Hans was also starting to worry so he said, "I'll search for them with Boyle too."
Huntley said, "You guys have to be careful then. If you can't find them, return to base and let us know. We'll look for them together after that."
…
Cherie had long since gotten lost and somehow ended up splitting away from Mandy.
Due to how dark the forest was and the fact that she was carrying a bunch of firewood, she slipped into a pit by accident.
She had sprained her ankle and no matter how hard she tried, she could not climb her way back up. The eerie winds were howling around her and this terrified her so much, she could barely keep herself together from breaking down.
She took her phone out and wanted to make a phone call. However, no matter how much she tried, her call would not go through.
There was no cell reception.
"Help!"
Cherie called out helplessly into the sky with her flashlight on. If they could spot her flashlight, maybe they would be able to find her?
However, would anyone actually come for her?
Why would Boyle even care about her when he was having such a good time with Layla?
Her heart ached so much.
"Help! Is anyone there!"
Boyle and Hans split up to look for Cherie.
The woman complained, "You have no idea how much fun you're having with Layla! You basically think I don't exist anymore!"
Boyle looked at her with a dimmed gaze as he said, "You were also having quite a good time with Hans, right?"
"Nonsense! I barely said more than five sentences to Hans today!"
Cherie stretched her palm out while staring at him with her teary eyes.
Boyle chuckled helplessly as he did not know how to respond to her at that moment, so he said, "I barely spoke to Layla too."
"You spoke six sentences to Layla and didn't even speak to me once!"
It felt like he was completely ignoring her without even batting an eye at her. It was as if she was non-existent to him.
The more she spoke, the more wronged she felt as she gradually teared up even more.
Boyle stared intensely at her little face as he said, "Tell me then, when did you and Hans even start dating?"
"When you started dating Layla!"
She was basically jumping to her own conclusions. He should be mad at her but he could not bring himself to do so when he noticed how sad she looked.
"Since when were Layla and I even dating?"
"You are! You guys are basically a couple. No, not just that, you guys are even planning to further your studies in the United States… Boyle, if you truly have plans to go to the United States, can you stop trying to toy with my feelings?"
Cherie was wiping her tears away with the back of her hand and had completely forgotten about her sprained ankle. She stood up and was about to leave.
However, due to her sprained ankle, she stumbled and fell. However, Boyle swiftly caught her.
Cherie flung his arm away as she exclaimed, "I don't need your help!"
Since he had already become someone else's boyfriend, he had no reason to keep flirting with her anymore!
Boyle grabbed her wrist and immediately pulled her into him. He stared at her from his towering height as he said, "Layla and I are not dating, nor do I have any plans to further my studies in the United States with her. Cherie, it was you. You started all of this. You've given me so much attention, sending me so many mixed signals and yet, you dare accuse me of messing with your feelings? I never messed with your feelings. It was you, it’s always been you."
His voice sounded strict and menacing.
