At the university's cafeteria the following day.
Cherie was lining up with Whitney for breakfast with extremely dark circles underneath her eyes.
Whitney nudged her back and said, "What on Earth did you do last night? Why do you look as if your life has been completely drained away?"
"Boyle, he… You know what, forget it. Let's not talk about him."
The more she talked about him, the more awful she felt.
Whitney replied with a laugh, "Oh, it's Boyle again. I think you're actually cursed by him!"
Cherie ignored her as she did not feel like talking because she felt awful.
"Oh, that's right. Boyle went viral yesterday. Have you seen it yet?"
Cherie raised her brows a little and said, "What amazing feat did he accomplish yesterday to have gone viral?"
Whitney glared at her and said, "I thought you told me earlier that you don’t want to care about him anymore? Fine, I'll tell you. He won a case when he went to court yesterday but obviously, it wasn’t something too major that'd propel him to becoming viral. However, the most important thing is that Boyle went to court injured and the viral post even mentioned that a witness present at court yesterday noticed the blood still dripping out of his wound. He won a two-hour case in that condition. He's insane…"
Cherie was stunned as she asked, "He's injured?"
"Yeah, there are even pictures being shared online. I'll show you."
Whitney found a picture of Boyle in court on Facebook.
Cherie snatched the phone and zoomed in on the picture, noticing the bloody mess on Boyle's shirt. It was a gruesome sight to see but the man did not seem to be bothered by it.
"I heard the defendant's family is quite powerful and due to Boyle's persistence in accepting this case, he was ambushed by the defendant's family. I didn't expect being a lawyer to be such a dangerous thing…"
Cherie did not seem to be paying attention to whatever Whitney said after that since the only thing on her mind at that moment was the fact that Boyle was injured.
'Is he at the hospital? Are his injuries serious? Will his life be in danger after losing so much blood?'
Cherie suddenly realized Boyle's refusal to meet her last night was probably because he wanted to hide his condition from her.
…
Cherie gave Huntley a call after she was done with her morning class.
It seemed they already had plans to further their studies in the United States. She had still been foolish enough to think that Boyle would actually love her.
Cherie turned around and immediately ran off. However, she ran into the nurse who was on her way to change Boyle's IV drip.
When the nurse entered Boyle's room with his medicine, she asked with a smile, "Mr. Lawson, a little girl was looking for you earlier. Was that your girlfriend?"
That little girl even asked the receptionist about Boyle's condition earlier.
Boyle and Layla were both stunned.
Boyle asked, "A little girl?"
"Yeah. Fair-skinned, long hair, very pretty. She seems to care about you a lot and even asked our receptionist about your injuries. She looked very worried, so I thought she was your girlfriend."
The nurse replied with a smile while helping Boyle change the infusion fluids for his IV.
Immediately afterward, Boyle instinctively peeked out of his room but saw that the hallway was completely empty.
