Boyle explained, “I didn’t become chummy with Layla nor am I together with her.”
“…and yet you kissed her.
Boyle further explained, “I didn’t know she would kiss me all of a sudden.”
Feeling wronged, Cherie raised her head and glared at him. “You could have pushed her away but why didn’t you?”
“Even if I pushed her away, she would’ve kissed me by then.”
Cherie was at a loss for words.
That was true. She was unable to argue against Boyle’s logical reasoning.
However, she still felt upset about it!
While staring at her hesitant and contemplating look, he suddenly wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her toward him. With one hand locking the back of her head, he lowered his head and kissed her.
The overbearing and warm consolation kiss made her blush as her heart raced. She was gasping for air after the sudden kiss.
The man ran his fingers through her hair and lowered his head to look at her. He then asked in a low and gruff voice, “Can you let the matter with Layla rest now?”
Cherie was once again at a loss for words.
Cherie bit her red and swollen lips, staring at him with her doe eyes. “Boyle, does that mean you want to become my boyfriend?”
Boyle gently ruffled her hair. “I’ll give you an answer after the second trial is over.”
‘Once the second trial is over… Isn’t that tomorrow?’ Cherie thought.
He hugged her, kissed her, and did so many intimate things toward her. He definitely liked her, right?
She felt slightly more assured regarding their relationship and smiled faintly. “Alright, you made a promise to me.”
When Boyle saw she was no longer angry with him, he felt relieved and his mood was alleviated as well. “Let’s go. I’ll send you to school.”
Cherie happily put on her small backpack and followed Boyle out.
…
Things usually happened at night whenever she sat on Boyle’s bicycle.
Because of that, people would not usually notice them.
However, they were now under the bright and hot sun. While on his bicycle on their way to school, they inadvertently attracted the attention of the many passersby.
He was a handsome man and she was a beauty herself. Both their appearances were especially eye-catching wherever they went.
When they almost arrived at the school entrance, Cherie frantically uttered, “I’ll get down here! I’ll just walk back to my dormitory.”
The school compound was quite big. It would take at least fifteen minutes for her to walk from the North entrance to her dormitory. However, she felt that she would rather spend the time walking back than be invaded by students’ curious eyes if they were to enter the school compound together on his bicycle.
Boyle stopped his bicycle soon after. He lifted his feet off the pedal and titled the bicycle to the side, allowing Cherie to easily hop off.
Boyle removed her bag from his shoulder and passed it back to her. “Are you shy?”
Cherie was considered shameless when compared to other girls her age. She snorted. “Definitely not. Don’t forget, Lawyer Boyle, that you’re popular in our school. If you sent me in, there would probably be an unavoidable round of shrieks and heartbreaks going around the university today.”
Being teased by her all of a sudden, Boyle was temporarily stunned.
Cherie carried her bag on her back again and waved goodbye to him. “I’ll leave now.”
Boyle watched her retreating figure as his handsome face brightened up under the light of the sunset. After walking a few steps toward the school, she spun around and dashed toward him.
Before Boyle was able to grasp her intentions, Cherie wrapped her arms around his neck to draw him closer to her. She then tiptoed and planted a light kiss on his lips.
Everything happened in a flash. Before he was able to catch her in the act, she had turned around and ran away.
…
The moment she returned to her dormitory, she was interrogated by her dorm mates.
“You reek of alcohol and there’s a strong musky and masculine smell on you!”
“You didn’t come back the whole night yesterday!”
“Cher! What did you do last night!”
Cherie wanted to escape from their endless interrogation. “My lovely dorm mates, why don’t you guys let me have a bath first?”
Just as she was about to dart to the bathroom, her dorm mates seized and pulled her back toward them.
“Oh, come on! Tell us! Were you together with a man last night?
Cherie felt content. She could have lunch with him tomorrow afternoon, so it would be fine if she did not attend the trial. She became excited the more she thought about it.
It was the first time Boyle took the initiative to invite her for lunch. He did mention once that he had something to tell her after the trial ended. Could it be a love confession?
Her mood became better upon having such thoughts in mind.
Boyle sent a restaurant’s address to her and told her to meet him at the Emerald Bamboo Restaurant at noon tomorrow.
Cherie did not feel like sleeping. She wanted to chat with him more but Boyle was a quiet person who did not like to chit-chat with others.
[It’s already twelve, go ahead and sleep.]
The man was urging her to sleep.
Cherie retorted. [Aren’t you sleeping soon?]
[I’m preparing and tidying the debates and arguments for tomorrow’s court opening statements.]
Cherie was at a loss for words. Alright, work was more interesting than talking to her.
Cherie was a little upset upon reading his reply.
After some time, Boyle sent another message. [Be a good girl and sleep.]
His endearing words immediately lightened her mood.
She could not do anything about it. She was satisfied easily through his simple coaxing.
Cherie immediately replied. [Good night, muacks.]
When Boyle received her reply, he was stunned and could not help but laugh loudly at her choice of words.
Muacks?
Boyle stared at the message for a long time. His cold and piercing gaze gradually melted under the shower of warm lights.
Boyle continued working for another half an hour. When he closed his files, his mouth curved upward as he looked at the timetable taped onto his desk.
He had her class timetable. That was how he knew she had classes tomorrow morning.
