Blaine drove Ruby back to the camp after they finished their dinner at the bar.
It was a long ride.
Sitting on the passenger seat, Ruby asked, “Why didn’t I hear you mention about your grandma before?”
Blaine let out a faint smile and casted a glance at her. “We haven’t reached the stage of marrying each other previously, right?”
The man spoke in a playful and teasing tone.
Ruby’s face heated up under the dim light. She bit her lips and said, “Who said I want to marry you? I just agreed to date you.”
Blaine nodded his head and said, “Yes. We start off by dating now and we’ll eventually reach the stage of marriage.”
That would happen sooner rather than later.
Ruby was speechless.
She pursed her lips and kept silent after hearing what Blaine said.
Leaning against the passenger seat, she felt somewhat tired as she just ate and blood was rushing to her stomach. Moreover, she spent hours on the helicopter rushing to the Western Border.
She was looking at the mountains and coastlines outside the window. It looked cold and desolate under the moonlight.
If it was not for the war and pandemic that happened all year long, the place was actually very beautiful. It was isolated from the rest of the world as well.
Blaine lifted his eyes and took a look at her pretty face under the dim light. He spoke, “You were too young when you first came to me. I wanted to raise and marry you. If I knew that we would be separated for 10 years, I would’ve married you back then.”
Ruby was slightly stunned. She never expected Blaine to express his feelings to her so straightforwardly.
“If you married me back then and we weren’t separated, won’t you feel sick of me after spending 10 years with me?”
Blaine raised his eyebrows and said, “Why would I be sick of you? It’s always fun being together with you.”
Ruby was not sure which part of Blaine’s words struck a chord in her, but she started tearing up as she looked at his handsome face brightening and dimming under the light.
That was how wonderful and touching it felt to be ascertained and desired by someone.
Ruby broke into a smile and said, “Take me to meet your grandma after we return to Glacier City.”
Blaine smiled faintly and said, “There’s no turning back after meeting my family.”
Ruby let out a faint hum, “Since you want to marry me so much, I’ll reluctantly comply with your wish. But… if I become a bossy woman after we get married, you’ll have to bear with me.”
“I don’t like bossy women. But if you’re a pretty and funny bossy woman, I would consider putting up with you.”
Blaine lifted his eyes and smirked at her after he finished his sentence. He looked unruly yet charming.
Ruby crossed her arms, closed her eyes and leaned against the seat to take a rest. A faint smile spread across her face.
…
When they returned to the camp, it was already 12 midnight when they finally lied down on the bed after washing up.
Blaine looked at the woman who was leaning on his arm. He lifted his hands and caressed her hair hanging down from her ears. Looking at her slightly exhausted face, he asked in a hoarse voice, “Are you tired?”
Ruby sighed, “A bit. I had been flying the plane for several hours to come here in the afternoon. I’m actually very tired, but I somehow don’t feel sleepy yet.”
Blaine smiled and said, “You’ll feel sleepy after sex.”
Ruby was speechless.
Although Blaine said that, he was not such a bastard. He wanted to treat her softly.
Ruby turned around and laid in his embrace while looking at the ceiling. “I’ve never been loved by elders.”
She never had any relatives who were older than her.
Although she never expressed herself, it did not mean that she did not care.
She saw how Serene’s parents treated her so well and she was once jealous of her.
People love kids who grew up in a happy family. Unlike her, she found it hard to fit into groups.
Looking at her disappointed face, Blaine hugged her tightly. He rested his chin on her forehead, lowered his head and kissed her. He said in a deep and warm tone, “I’ll love you a lot. I’ll shower you with love.”
“I know.”
Softie had already felt Blaine’s love 10 years ago.
Ruby lifted his head to look at him. She smiled and her eyes turned into a crescent moon, “Master Blaine, if you spoil me like a child, you must never let me go.”
“I will try my very best to spoil you like a child.”
He knew her past story. Just like him, she suffered a lot. There were more bitter times compared to happy times.
People like them who often encountered life-or-death situations knew how to appreciate the little happiness best.
Ruby wrapped her arms around Blaine. All she felt was satisfaction.
The most invaluable thing in this world was not their encounter, neither was it falling in love. It was understanding each other.
They both walked through the same path and experienced the same childhood. They were always walking on the razor’s edge and they knew how terrifying it was, so they knew how to appreciate each other more.
It was as though they were one. Even if she kept silent, he understood her.
