Blaine had to travel somewhere for work on the following day after his birthday.
Although Blaine claimed he was traveling elsewhere for work, Ruby—who worked in the same field of work as Blaine—clearly knew Blaine had been deployed on a secret mission.
However, she still intentionally asked him, “Where will you be going? How long will you be gone for?”
Blaine reached out and patted her head as he said, “Soonest I’ll be back is about a week. The longest would probably be about two weeks to a month.”
“Remember to call me, Blaine.”
Blaine stared intensely at her as he said, “Softie, I won’t be able to contact you during my absence, so you’ll have to be a good girl and wait for me at home.”
Ruby pouted her lips and said, “What should I do when I miss you then?”
Blaine reached out and pulled the woman into him, hugging her tightly as he lowered his head to kiss her cheeks. He then whispered to her, “You’ll need to hang in there, okay? Or maybe you can count the ants at home. You can tell me how much you missed me when I return.”
Ruby was speechless.
She was used to farewells. Ever since she was a child, she was separated from her own family. When she was ten, she left the orphanage she lived in for ten years to join the Light Organization with Stephen. Everything was foreign to her then. She had never been never afraid of farewells.
That was because those places were never home to her, so she was completely fine with wherever she was sent to.
Before she was deployed to R Country for a mission by the Light Organization, the biggest wish Ruby wanted was to make enough money to finally build a paradise she could call home.
The person she missed the most when she was deployed to Z Country for a mission was Wilson. However, the only feelings she felt upon leaving him was sadness without any form of actual emotional attachment.
This moment however, she actually felt how happy it was to be in love after only spending less than two months cuddling up with the man in front of her.
Blaine lowered his head and whispered into her ear, “I’m off now, Softie.”
After saying that, the man gently pushed her away and strode out of the mansion.
Ruby finally went after him after watching him leave. She waved at Blaine while standing by the door and said, “Come home as soon as you can, Blaine.”
Although Blaine did not look back, he had a slight smile on his face.
…
Blaine still did not return after a week.
Ruby was cuddling up with the huge dog, Hahah, on the couch.
It seemed quite lonely for a dog to be a person’s only companion in this huge mansion.
Since Ruby was bored, she started talking to the dog, “Hey, Hahah. Why isn’t Blaine home yet? Say, do you know where Blaine went off to on his solo-mission? Could it be the desert? Maybe it’s the forest? Or is he in the tundras?”
“Forget it. You’re as clueless as I am so asking you is pointless.”
After spending such a long time together, Hahah was starting to get used to its mistress. After blinking at her, it laid on her soft and slender lap, whimpering as it listened to Ruby’s mumbles.
Ruby took a glance at the study upstairs. It seemed every single confidential document was taken by Dark Shadow while Blaine was absent.
She initially thought she would be able to live like a queen since the owner was not home. However, she was already bored out of her mind since his departure. Now that she could not even steal any sort of confidential information, her days felt even more uneventful.
…
The president’s office.
With a cold look, Paul asked his secretary, “What have you found out about the woman Blaine picked up?”
The secretary handed the information to him as he explained, “The woman’s name is called Softie and although her identity shows she’s from R Country, this woman is extremely suspicious. She has not lived a day in R Country despite being a citizen there. The only thing we could find out about her is that she has studied in A Country. I’ve sent someone to investigate further and it turns out, she’s suffering a concussion and has amnesia from the explosion at the Lunar Hotel previously. She’s been fully dependent on Blaine.”
Paul was stunned as a playful glint flashed across his eyes. He said, “What did you say? She’s fully dependent on Blaine due to amnesia?”
Blaine would fall for such a scam? Could Blaine have already been suspicious of the woman’s identity and intentionally brought the woman back to be used as bait?
When Ruby walked by the President’s secretary with Hahah, he pushed his glasses back up the bridge of his nose.
“Miss Softie, don’t force our hand. That would just make it ugly for everyone.”
Ruby scoffed, turning around to stare at him and say, “What’s the matter? The President wants to kidnap Blaine’s woman while he’s not home just to threaten him later?”
A peculiar glint flashed across the secretary’s eyes. He seemed to not expect the woman would catch on so quickly. He said, “I suggest you come along with us.”
“What if I refuse?”
Clap, clap, clap.
After the secretary clapped his hands a few times, a few tall and muscular men got out of the car and stood in front of Ruby.
Ruby took a quick glance at the surveillance camera at the courtyard entrance. It seemed she would be unable to fight back against these people as it would expose her identity.
“Let’s go, Miss Softie.”
Ruby did not panic as she questioned him back, “I can go with you guys but aren’t you guys afraid of what Blaine would do to you when he returns? Blaine isn’t someone you can easily cross like me. Why don’t you guys take a guess at what he’ll do when his woman is bullied by a bunch of stray cats and dogs?”
The secretary seemed a little agitated as he raised his brows and asked, “Who are you calling stray cats and dogs?”
Ruby gave him a mocking glare before saying, “Whoever kidnaps me.”
“... Get in the car, Miss Softie.”
The secretary opened the door and asked her to get into the car in a stiff manner.
Ruby released Hahah’s leash. After she entered the car, she leaned by the door and told Hahah, “You’ll need to get home yourself, Hahah. Remember to bring Master Blaine to look for me at the President’s office when he returns. If I die, pin the blame on the President and tell Blaine he needs to avenge me. Do you understand?”
The secretary muttered to himself, ‘... What a ruthless lady.’
