It was in a clinic in the mountainous area.
Verian slept for more than ten hours and was awoken by hunger.
When she woke up, her eyes stung from the reflective white walls around her.
She stared blankly at the snow-white ceiling and subconsciously, asked in a low voice, "Where is this...?"
‘Is this heaven? Did she really die that soon?’
Between her breath, she could smell a familiar breath of a cold man surrounding her. Her dewy eyes shivered, and she looked down. She saw a man wearing a black windbreaker.
Before her brain could fully respond, she heard a familiar voice. It was deep and magnetic. The man said, "You are in a clinic in the mountainous area. You have a low fever and you haven’t eaten anything for more than 48 hours. You were exhausted and passed out.”
The handsome face in front of her came closer and suddenly--
Heaton Fudd...?!
Her heart started beating violently in her chest as if it was going to jump out.
Heaton ignored her startled expression. He pulled her into his embrace and held a cup of water to her mouth with his huge, slender hands. Then, he said, "Drink some water."
His voice was like a fire in the snow. One could not tell whether it was warm or cold-hearted, but it made her feel at ease. She cupped his hands and gulped down the water, almost choking. Heaton slightly frowned. He stretched out his hands, reached down her back and patted her.
She stared at him blankly and did not dare to blink her eyes even once. She was afraid that Heaton would disappear once she closed her eyes.
"Am I not in the cellar? Or, am I... am I dreaming?"
However, his breath and his looks appeared so real in front of her. It made her feel like crying.
Having just experienced such a dark and terrifying incident, she was still frightened even though she had a stronger and braver heart than other ordinary girls. However, in her most desperate times, she wanted to be able to rely on someone and Heaton managed to provide her a sense of security so naturally.
Heaton lowered his head and gazed at her. He curled up his long finger and flicked her forehead. "Do you still feel like you’re dreaming?"
She did not respond for a moment. She was stupefied. She bit her lips and stared at him then bursting into tears.
"Heaton..."
The woman suddenly collapsed into his arms. She hugged his neck tightly and cried like a wounded kitten, wronged and pitiful. Heaton’s frozen heart was crushed and melted by her cries. He even felt a stir in his calm heart. Finally, he let down his stiff hands and held the woman in his arms. His huge hands comforted the trembling woman patiently.
She turned into a crying mess. She could only instinctively absorb the warmth from his body. Her two arms around his neck tightened until the man started to speak," Verian Mont, I just saved you earlier and now you want to murder me?"
She was stunned. She blushed and quickly loosened her grip on his neck, but the man's long arm acted faster. He grabbed her waist and quickly brought her back into his arms. Their eyes met. The woman's dewy eyes were clearly staring into his deep pupils. His eyes were like a typhoon. It was quiet outside but inside, there was a huge whirlpool as though it was trying to pull people into it.
His eyes were softer and more sentimental than usual. Verian could not help but to close her eyes.
One second, two seconds, three seconds… the kiss that she was imagining did not happen.
Until the deep, bantering voice appeared again, “What are you waiting for?"
The man could not help but to lift his hand and wipe the tears off her face. "Jelly Bean is still waiting for you to go back to celebrate her birthday."
Talking about Little Jelly Bean, Verian’s heart shivered and she cried harder. She clenched his shirt tightly with both her hands as she choked, "I’m sorry... I couldn’t make it on time for Little Jelly Bean's birthday."
Her tears soaked his shirt, and wrinkles appeared on his shirts as her fair hands were tightly clenched onto his shirt. Heaton lowered his head and he could not help but to kiss her forehead.
"Little Jelly Bean's birthday will be held every year."
Heaton was not good at comforting people. In his past 32 years of life, he had only comforted Little Jelly Bean and never comforted other women before. Such a simple sentence was enough to bring great comfort to Verian.
Verian cried till her mind was messed up. She suddenly remembered that Little Jelly Bean and her surrogate child's birthday were on the same day. She raised her eyes and stared at Heaton. The man frowned and asked, "What's the matter?"
The thought that flashed through her mind was quickly dismissed.
It was impossible. A man like Heaton had no reason to look for surrogacy. Besides, how could Nancy allow him to find another woman to have children?
Maybe it was just a coincidence...
She was still cowardly and timid. She did not dare to reveal the scar and expose the gory wound unreservedly in front of Heaton. However, if he denied it, she could not wind the matter up.
She shook her head and asked, "Didn’t you have something to tell me the night before Little Jelly Bean's birthday?"
What was he going to say to her?
