A day had passed.
Serene felt the back of her head being unusually heavy. She tried her best to pry her eyes open. However, as she opened her eyes, all she could see was complete darkness.
“Where am I?”
She felt her brain momentarily experiencing a short circuit and she could not recall what happened before this.
Soon, she remembered that she was initially trying on wedding gowns in a bridal shop... After that, Wilson’s godfather suddenly appeared...
Then, she appeared to have been knocked unconscious and taken away by someone...
And that person who kidnapped her was... Wilson’s godfather?!
A box-shaped blinding light suddenly appeared in the darkness. The door of the room she was being held in was opened.
Stephen walked toward her. She had been in the dark for quite some time and hence, the sudden bright light pouring in momentarily blinded both her eyes. Her eyes struggled in pain to adjust to the brightness while she subconsciously lifted her hands to block the light.
“I heard that you are pregnant.”
Serene was temporarily stunned and did not answer his question. Instead, she asked, “Old man, why did you do this? Aren’t you Wilson’s godfather?”
A cold glint flashed in Stephen’s eyes but as he looked at Serene, his eyes had a trace of a smile in relish of something unknown. “Little girl, there is no one in this world who dared to address me as “old man”. You are the first person. Others respectfully address me as their leader but this is not important. The title is just some form of names or designations. Those people might address me as a leader in front of me but they might not be treating me as a leader sincerely from their heart.”
Serene had a creepy feeling that this old man was sinister. This feeling was completely different from that when she first met Stephen.
The old man in front of her who was already in his sixties had an all-engulfing aura but it was not that of a bright aura but more like an evil aura with occasional darkness seeping out.
Serene was unable to define her feelings. The Stephen in front of her was just but evil at the same time and it was difficult to know what thoughts he had in his mind.
“What do you want? Why did you kidnap me here? Where is this place?”
“You’re in Z Country now, a kingdom that belongs to me. In this place, I have the utmost power and authority. Killing you is as easy as killing an ant.”
Serene’s face paled in fear but she continued to act bravely in her approach. “You won’t dare to do so. If you kill me, Wilson will surely hunt you down to take revenge on my behalf!”
As Wilson’s name was mentioned, a trace of loneliness and pity on wasted talents flashed in Stephen’s eyes. “At first, I hoped he would surpass me. I’ve also thought of handing over my position built from a lifetime of effort and labor to him. However, he is now completely not up-to-par and not good enough to own all of these. I kidnapped you in front of him but he was unable to sense it at all. He has already lost the chance to become the top assassin and also lost the eligibility to own this throne.”
“Who would ever want to become a killer? Their life will be filled with anxiety and fear every day. Perhaps, they might even be unfortunate and die early one day. As for the throne you mentioned, even if you gifted it to Wilson, he will not give a damn even if it’s a buy-one-free-one deal!”
Stephen glared at her frighteningly and frostily. “Do you know how many people have lost their lives fighting over this position? It represents the utmost power and it represents everything.”
Serene snorted. “Wilson and I just wanted to live a peaceful life. Why can’t you just let him go?”
Stephen became more agitated as he fumed in anger. “He has such excellent talents and aptitude. What did you say? Living a peaceful life with you? You’re just letting a natural resource go to waste.”
Serene then glared at him. “You didn’t even treat Wilson as your own child. You even tried to shape him into a useful chess piece so he could become your right-hand man to amass power and influence. People like you are unworthy of owning such power!”
The speeding bullet hit the dark wall behind Serene.
Serene could hear the minute mechanical sound and wind from the bullet which flew past her ear. She could also clearly hear her heart beating erratically.
She tried hard to suppress the immense fear arising in her heart and also tried to regain her composure and kept telling herself that this person in front of her was really insane.
She must not infuriate him again! If he fired another shot again, the bullet might not just pass by the side of her ears. Instead, it might hit her in between her eyes.
She was already pregnant and Wilson was not beside her now. She had the responsibility to protect their child.
She must not fight head-to-head with him... She must continue to occupy him until Wilson came to save her.
Stephen snorted and stared at Serene’s pale and pallid face. “Why aren’t you talking now? You can continue to admonish me, snap at me or speak ill of me.”
Serene huffed lightly in response. “Indeed. I can continue to admonish you, snap at you and speak ill of you but you have a gun in your hands. If I infuriate you, your next shot will probably not be the wall behind me but at me, a human target. You're a funny and contradictory man. On one hand, you emphasized that we are equal and I can criticize you. On the other hand, you chained to this place and pointed a gun at me. In fact, you don’t need any criticisms. You merely wanted me to praise you to the sky.”
In the dark, the man smirked lightly. “Your ability to comprehend things quickly is good and you are very smart. I, too, know that you won’t genuinely praise me and agree to what I’ve said just now and so... I’ve just concocted a new way of having fun with you.”
A new way of having fun?
Serene’s dense and long eyelashes shook violently for a moment. Her intuition was telling her that Stephen, this old, monstrous and hideous man would definitely corner her into death!
