Serene’s mother looked shocked as she exclaimed, “... You, what did you say?”

Serene instinctively realized what she had said as her face turned instantly pale. She stuttered, “Mom, I, I…”

Serene’s mother glared intensely at her as she held back her rage before asking her clearly, “Serene Ludd, is it true that you’re pregnant?”

“Aunty, Serene and I both love each other dearly.”

The instant Serene’s mother heard that, she raised her brows and said, “Didn’t do it for love? This man is scary then! He’s capable of marrying anyone! If he can marry you now, he can divorce you later and go on ahead to marry someone else!”

Serene furiously vented her pent up frustrations and this infuriated her mother so much, her hands were shaking. Serene’s mother said, “Serene Ludd, you’re going to go against us, now? Since when have you become so shameless? You’d shame yourself just to marry him?”

Wilson lifted the woman’s little head next to him and spoke in a serious tone, “Aunty, Serene is the only woman I’ve ever loved in my entire life. I didn’t want to marry her because of her being pregnant with my child but instead, I want to marry her because I’ve spent years preparing for this. I hope you both can give us your blessings.”

Serene was completely buried in Wilson’s arms and she could clearly feel the trembles in Wilson’s body. Even if the man was gritting his teeth without whimpering in pain, she could hear his dull grunts.

Serene noticed his protruding veins from both arms. She was hugging him so tightly with her little arms and she knew he was now in excruciating pain. Her heart wrenched as she cried. Every single tear drop landed on the back of his hands.

“Wilson, please let go. If this keeps up… my dad will beat you to death.”

The man stared intensely at her with his dark eyes as he said, “I’ve told you, I will do everything in my power to protect you and our child. I won’t go back on my words.”

“Wilson… you are a complete fool!”

As Serene’s mother watched both of them, her heart suddenly felt soft.

That Wilson seemed to really care for Serene or else, he would never have shielded her with his own body to such an extent.

Every strike from Serene’s father’s blow was hard. After the steel pipe struck Wilson’s back more than ten times, blood stains could be seen imprinted on Wilson’s white shirt.
