Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 570

Serene realized she was on a hospital bed when she woke up.

She raised her hand and saw it was inserted with an IV. "Dr. Hayes, what happened?"

"Well, do you know that you have low blood pressure? You forget everything when you're working. You could have been in big trouble if we didn't treat it in time. You're lucky you fainted in the hospital. What if it happened in the middle of nowhere? Who would get you to the hospital then?"

Serene felt a little embarrassed after Dr. Hayes lectured her. She apologized, "I'm sorry for troubling you, Dr. Hayes."

"Get some rest. Don't rush back to your department after the drip is done. Be good, and rest well."

"Dr. Hayes, I'm fine… I will eat some chocolate."

Dr. Hayes gave her a piercing look just after she finished her sentence. "Silly girl! You are okay, but the baby in your belly needs rest."

Serene was stunned; she thought she had misheard it. "Dr. Hayes, what did you say?"

What? A baby?

Dr. Hayes looked at her in shock. "You didn't know that you are pregnant?"

"Pregnant? Me? I'm pregnant?"

"Here is the result. You are seven weeks along."

Serene was not an obstetrician, but she could read the pregnancy test result.

When did she get pregnant?

Seven weeks! That was about two months ago. Was it the night when she and Wilson were at the Light Organization base?

She did some math and the time frame fitted.

Dr. Hayes said kindly, "It's fortunate that you didn't hurt the baby when you fell. You have to be more careful from here onward. You also have to observe your blood pressure level every day. It might increase after a pregnancy. Just make sure to do your checkup in time."

As she held the pregnancy result with her hand, she sat on the bed in shock. She was in a daze.

Dr. Hayes frowned and asked, "Wait, Little Ludd. You are still so young. Are you married?"

She got pregnant before marriage; that was a little awkward. Furthermore, Serene was a conservative woman.

"Dr. Hayes, can you do me a favor? Can you not tell anyone that I am pregnant? If they asked, just tell them it's low blood pressure. Can you do that for me?"

Dr. Hayes nodded, "Of course. You are my patient now, and we'll have to protect our patient's privacy. But, Little Ludd, getting pregnant is a big deal. It's okay for you not to tell anyone, but you'll have to tell the baby's father. This is being responsible for the baby and yourself."

Serene smiled. "Don't worry, Dr. Hayes; I will. Thank you."

"Get some rest, then. Press the bell if you need any help."

"Okay."

After Dr. Hayes left, Serene remained on the bed; she still couldn't think clearly.

She lowered her head and touched her belly. Her flat stomach did not show any signs of pregnancy, so she was still confused.

She had agreed with Wilson that they would not have kids so early into their relationship, and then she got pregnant. It was Murphy's Law. The more one did not want something to happen, the more likely that it would happen.

Serene frowned worriedly. 'Baby, how should I tell your father? He's a big baby himself. And now we are having a baby?'

'What if your father doesn't like you? Will he ask me to get an abortion?'

It sent shivers down Serene's spine when the thought occurred to her.

"What kind of animal would hit a pregnant woman?"

"It was not some delinquents who hit her. It was her husband. She got pregnant out of wedlock. Her husband… No, her boyfriend, well, he was just playing her. He didn’t want to marry her in the first place. He had been abusive toward her as well. We tried to talk to him, and he even wanted to hit us after a few exchanges. Fortunately, the police came and took him away."

Serene was startled as she listened to their conversation. She felt even more anxious.

They carried on with the conversation. "What a scumbag! He did that to his girlfriend? Men who hit women or pregnant women are the worst."

"I know, right? The female patient didn't want to get an abortion. So, the guy beat her up after he got drunk. And he aimed at her stomach when he punched her. It was so cruel! He is a scoundrel!"

"And the girl still doesn't want to break up with him?"

"She probably has Stockholm syndrome."

"She might be a masochist. Though I pity the female patient, I have to say that she brought it upon herself."

……

Serene listened to their gossip as she held her chin on her hand; her mind wandered off.

Wilson said that he did not want kids, but she had gotten pregnant. Would Wilson turn into a savage?

If Wilson were to act brutally against her, he would do much worse than the man in their discussion.

Work time was almost over; Wilson had sent her another text.

[I'll wait for you downstairs.]

Serene did not reply like how she always did, and she threw her phone aside. Her mind was in chaos, and she did not want to go home so early. She had not decided how she should face Wilson or how she would tell him that she was pregnant.
