Wilson was prepared to cook dinner after they got back to the apartment.
"What do you want to eat for dinner?"
"Stir-fried shredded potatoes with green pepper and tomato egg drop soup."
Wilson opened the refrigerator and took the ingredients that he needed. "Again? Aren't you sick of them?"
Serene ran to the kitchen from the living room. She stared at Wilson and asked hesitantly, "Hey… I need to ask you something."
"Go ahead."
Serene took a deep breath and solemnly said, "Chainer told me that you stole his woman."
Stole his woman?
Wilson wanted to laugh when he heard that. He put the tomatoes on the table and looked at Serene. "Did he tell you how I stole his woman?"
Serene nodded and said, "He said you knew about Gwen's crush on him. So, you drank him under the table and made him sleep with Gwen after that."
Wilson remained calm. He stared at her with his dark eyes. "If what he said was true, would you blame and hate me for it?"
Serene bit her lips and frowned. "I had the same question on my mind. However, I realized that I could hardly blame you even if you really did that; but I want to know why you did it."
"Chainer is really good at making up stories."
"What? Did he lie to me?"
Wilson raised his eyebrows. "He said that I drank him under the table and made him sleep with Gwen. When did I even drink with him and Gwen?"
That was true. A high and mighty guy like Wilson would never mix around with people like Chainer. It might make more sense if Wilson went out for drinks with Heaton, but he would never do that with Chainer.
"Furthermore, who said that a drunk guy would sleep around?"
Serene gently tapped her fingers on the kitchen counter as she lowered her eyes and asked softly, "In that case, why did you fall for me?"
Wilson stared at her. "Even though I never did what Chainer said, I did give him options."
"What kind of options?"
"I wanted to test Chainer for you, so I wrote him a five million bucks cheque and told him to break up with you. Surprisingly, he accepted the cheque without any hesitation. He and Gwen had also been sleeping with each other for quite some time. He never regarded you as his girlfriend."
Serene was furious. "How dare that bastard lie to me! He even had the guts to make up stories to defame you!"
Wilson pulled her into his arms and held her gently. "Stop hanging around with people like him. He abandoned you for five million bucks; he might do it again in the future."
"Five million bucks… Did you really give him five million bucks?"
Serene's eyes widened. Damn it! It seemed like Wilson had money to burn. Why did he give that bastard five million bucks?
The man gazed deeply into her eyes. "I think it's worth the money to get you for five million bucks."
Serene blushed, but it still could not wash away the fact that her heart ached when she heard that Wilson spent so much money on her!
"I'll never earn five million bucks in this lifetime! You spent so much on a bastard like him, but you never gave me five million bucks…"
Serene's voice gradually became softer out of guilt.
Wilson stared at her adorable face as his lips curved into a smile. "Mrs. Jarret is worth more than that. My entire asset is yours."
Serene blushed furiously, and she covered her face with her hands.
"That's odd… If that was the case, when did you start liking me? Don't tell me you fell in love with me at first sight."
Serene's excitement grew at the thought of that. She had just started her internship at that time; did he fall in love with her, then?
If he had already liked her at that time, why did he treat her so coldly back then?
He was such a mysterious and cold man!
The man coughed lightly, walked past her, and continued with his cooking. Serene was unsatisfied; she walked up to him and pestered him. She was determined to get an answer out of him.
"Because it was dark that night."
Serene was speechless.
She suddenly remembered something!
"Were you that killer?"
"We met ten years ago. You saved me then."
Serene said, "What's with the red bracelet then?"
Wilson had always carried the red bracelet with a name carved on it with him. He took it out of his pocket and said, "Thanks to this bracelet, I managed to get your name and then eventually found you."
Serene gulped. She was excited when she said, "So this bracelet has been with you for ten years?"
"Well, you can say that it's a token of our love."
Serene stared at the bracelet; his story deeply moved her. "So, you mean that you've liked me for more than ten years?"
"To be exact, it has been 3894 days."
Tears started to well in Serene's eyes. "Have you ever been in a relationship throughout these 3894 days?"
Ten years. How many people in the world were willing to wait for someone for ten years?
The man leaned in closer to the woman's face. He rubbed his nose gently against hers as he said in a deep voice, "I've been waiting for you to grow up."
Fortunately, she had grown up to be a wonderful lady after ten years.
He was even more fortunate to get her after ten long years.
Serene would never know how emotional he felt the moment he found her. It was as though he had been reborn.
