Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 563

Wilson Jarret was still cooking when he pulled Serene to him and hugged her with his arms.

“From now on, wherever I go, I’ll make sure to tell you first. I won’t let you look for me that frantically again.”

Serene stared at the golden-brown eggs in the pan; its aroma smelled so lovely. His gentle and firm promise made her feel even better.

Serene raised her head and pecked Wilson on the chin.

They had brunch; it was a combination of millet porridge, sunny-side-up eggs, and some stir-fried vegetables.

After a heavy meal of hot pot from the night before, the steaming hot millet porridge made her stomach feel much better.

Suddenly, she remembered that they had bumped into Chainer and Gwen Sue the previous day. “By the way, do you have a cousin sister called Gwen Sue?”

Wilson seemed alarmed when he heard that. He looked at her, but he did not deny it. It did not seem like Gwen Sue had told her anything yet.

“Yes. Why? You saw her?”

Serene nodded. “Yes. When I was at the mall with Verian, I saw her with Chainer. She said she is your cousin. Why didn’t you tell me that?”

“She’s just a distant cousin. Our mothers were cousins, but they were not close. They didn’t really talk much.”

“I see. So, they were not close.”

Wilson placed some vegetables into her bowl. “Why? Did something happen between you two?”

Serene shook her head. “What can she do besides showing off her relationship with Chainer? Now that I know she is your cousin, I wonder if you will take her side.”

Wilson stared at her with a deep look. He smiled and said, “I won’t. I will be on your side, no matter what.”

Serene’s cheeks reddened. She held up her bowl and almost buried her face in it.

Still, Wilson continued in an indifferent tone. “She’s just a distant cousin. You are my only family.”

Serene looked up unconsciously. “What kind of family?”

“Mrs. Jarett. My wife. How does that sound?”

Serene was speechless.

She nearly choked on her porridge and coughed. When she gained her composure, she asked with flushed cheeks, “Are you proposing to me?”

“Yes, I am; if you are ready. Even though you may not be willing now, I won’t let anyone take your place as Mrs. Jarett. It will always be yours.”

Serene remained silent.

Serene met his burning gaze, and her heart raced. She lowered her head and continued to eat. She mumbled, “I will give it some thought.”

The folds around his eyes deepened as he smiled.

……

After their lunch, Wilson brought Serene out as they were rarely on a date.

Serene brought Wilson to a place where couples go—the amusement park.

Serene wanted to ride on the carousel. However, Wilson frowned when he saw the children on the ride.

Serene would look fine on the carousel. She looked like a recently-graduated student. Nobody would notice if she were to ride it.

Wilson, on the other hand, was a man with a tall build. He could not imagine how it looked if he were to sit on it.

Wilson refused without a second thought. He held her hand and tried to think of an excuse. “I can ride the ferris wheel with you.”

Serene was resolute. “No, I want to ride the carousel.”

She went to the queue, so Wilson had no choice but to follow her. His 190-cm height made him stand out like a sore thumb among the parents and their children.

A mother with a kid mumbled, “I can’t believe a big guy like him is going on the carousel.”

Then, her legs gave way in a couple of minutes…

Serene could not walk after she got down from the Hammer. Wilson supported her as they walked out of the ride.

Serene crouched on the grass once she got out of the ride. Tears had started to stream down her cheeks; perhaps it was from fright or when she had screamed.

“Are you okay?”

Wilson bent down to pat her back. Serene shoved at his legs, furiously. “Go away! It’s all your fault. I’m going to throw up…”

Wilson was worried about her, so he crouched beside her to comfort her.

Serene stared at him pitifully. “Didn’t you say that it would be like the carousel? Liar! My legs have gone weak!”

Serene was so terrified that she burst out in tears. Wilson hugged her and apologized. “Baby, I’m sorry. It’s all my fault. Please stop crying. We will ride the carousel again, okay?”

Wilson was speechless.

He helped her to a nearby bench.

A girl with an ice-cream cone walked by them, and that caught his eyes. He told Serene, “Baby, hold on a second. I will go and get something for you.”

A few moments after that, Wilson came back with a big ice cream cone.

Serene had a few mouthfuls of ice cream. She had finally calmed after that daunting ride.

Wilson stared at her fair, blushed cheeks. “Is it good?”

Serene held the ice-cream to his lips, but he did not open them. Instead, he held her face in his hand and kissed the corner of her mouth.

After he was done, he stared at her and commented, “It’s not bad.”

It made Serene feel perplexed.
