Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 542

When Serene woke up, she realized the man next to her was missing.

As she was just about to get up and look for him, Wilson had already returned while clutching onto his phone.

Serene calmed down and asked, “Where’d you wander off to? Why didn’t you wake me up?”

“I didn’t have the heart to wake you up when you were sleeping so soundly.”

Serene took a glance at the time from her phone as she asked, “It’s really late now and you must be hungry, right? The doctor said you’re allowed to eat soft foods tonight. I’ll buy some porridge for you.”

As she was just about to head out, her wrist was grabbed by Wilson while the man was staring at her with a gentle gaze as he said, “It’s so late now. Where are you going to find porridge? Just order takeout.”

“But takeout food might not be clean though…”

“I have some numbers for private kitchens. They can deliver it directly here.”

As Serene was helping him back onto the bed, she said, “Alright then. Order two sets. I’m also a little hungry.”

“Alright.”

When the porridge finally arrived, dumplings were also delivered to them. Since Wilson was unable to eat, he ordered those dumplings for Serene.

Serene was overjoyed as she said, “The crystal shrimp dumplings from this shop are really good. Can you take me there after you’re discharged from the hospital?”

Wilson suddenly grew silent as he stared at her gentle, beautiful face.

Since Serene did not get a reply from him, she looked up at him and asked, “What’s wrong? Is your porridge too bland? Do you want to add some sugar in it?”

Wilson shook his head before speaking in a calm tone, “You can go home tomorrow morning.”

“Oh there’s no need for that. I’ve already applied for a couple days leave from my hospital. Don’t you worry. You won’t affect my work schedule.”

“What I meant to say is, you don’t need to take care of me ever again.”

Serene was a little puzzled as she stared at him before saying with a smile, “You absolutely do need someone to take care of you now. Also, didn’t you mention that you don’t have a family? As your girlfriend, I should take care of you when you’re sick and besides, you’d do the same to me when I’m sick too. Thus, why do you want me to leave? I feel more relaxed taking care of you here than working at my hospital. Besides, I’m not tired.”

“What if you’re not my girlfriend anymore from this moment? That way, you won’t have to take care of me anymore.”

Serene was stunned while holding onto her chopsticks. Her smile stiffened as she said, “Wilson Jarret, what are you talking about? I don’t think of you as a burden while I’m taking care of you anyway and I am so worried when you’re sick. I…”

“Let’s break up, Serene.”

Serene dropped the chopsticks in her hands onto the floor.

She asked with a smile, “Wilson... Wilson Jarret, what are you joking about?”

Wilson stared intensely at her with his dark eyes before clearly saying, “I’m not joking. I’m being serious.”

“Was it because my parents were constantly getting in our way so you’d…”

Before she could finish, Wilson interrupted her by saying, “It has nothing to do with your parents.”

Serene began tearing up as she asked with a puzzled tone, “Then, why?”

“I suddenly realized I don’t love you that much.”

Serene felt helpless as she suddenly stood up and questioned him while sobbing, “... What do you mean suddenly realized? Only after so long you realized you don’t love me that much? Wilson Jarret, what is the meaning of this?”

Wilson lowered his dark gaze slightly. After a good long while staring at his crossed arms, he replied in a very emotionless tone, “I got bored. Is that a good enough reason for you?”

Serene was speechless.

Every inch of Serene’s body grew numb and she was unsure if that was caused by being angry or the result of immense sadness. However, she desperately tried to calm herself down.

She took a deep breath then asked, “That means you were never serious with me from the very start?”

Wilson looked up before simply questioning her, “Do you think we’d have the possibility of getting married to each other when we’re both from a completely different social class?”

Serene was even more hurt by his question. What Wilson said sounded very hurtful. It hurt even more than him coldy ignoring her.

Serene gradually clenched her fists while her arms were hanging beside her. She said, “However, you divorced Ruby for my sake.”

“The marriage between Ruby and I was never serious in the first place. I didn’t decide to divorce her after meeting you. Your appearance provided me the excuse and reason I needed to divorce her.”

Verian asked, “How is Dr. Jarret? Are you eating well since you’re taking care of him alone in the hospital?”

Serene replied with a simple text, “I will not be taking care of him in the hospital anymore.”

“Huh?” Verian could not understand what Serene meant.

It did not take Serene long to follow up with another text, “Verian, can you stop bringing up that man to me next time?”

Verian was even more confused as she said, “Did you have a fight with Dr. Jarret?”

“No. I broke up with him.”

Verian was speechless.

She called her immediately after a couple seconds.

Serene hesitated for a couple seconds. She felt that if she did not face it now, she would still have to face it in future, so she might as well just rip the bandaid off.

Verian asked in a concerned tone the moment she picked up, “Weren’t you completely fine with Dr. Jarret yesterday? Didn’t you tell me that he’d even proposed to you? How’d you guys break up the very next instance? Could there be some sort of misunderstanding?”

“There is no misunderstanding. He said that I was in a completely different social class from him and he was only fooling around with me.”

Verian raised her brows and said, “... The second Chainer?”

Serene complained, “You’re absolutely right. Wilson isn’t so different from Chainer after all. He is the second Chainer. Heck, he’s even worse than Chainer.”

Verian broke it down to her and said, “But Dr. Jarret didn’t seem like that kind of a person though…”

Serene started crying from being so agitated. “He is.”

“Alright, alright now. Stop crying, where are you? I’m worried about you.”

“I’m at home, Verian. Can you come over to keep me company?”

While Verian comforted her, she was also getting ready to head out. She said, “Give me half an hour, okay? Don’t you go anywhere. Even without Wilson, you’d still be able to find a better man.”
