The kitchen on the sixth floor in this old-fashioned residential building was filled with sizzling sounds, making the atmosphere lively.
Tyler sat on the small sofa and played with his Legos.
The door opened and Carter came home. He changed into his slippers and walked in with his notebook. "Wifey, I'm back."
Helen served the dishes from the pot onto a plate. "You’re back late today. Never mind, it's the right timing. We’re just about to eat. You should wash your hands."
When Carter entered the kitchen and washed his hands, Helen could not hold back and said, "By the way, Hubby, Verian and her husband sent us back today. Tyler encountered some issues at the kindergarten today and I'm really grateful that Verian's husband helped us. We should invite their family over to have a meal next time to show our gratitude."
Carter was stunned. He turned around and hugged her from behind. "What happened to Tyler?"
"Well, there was a naughty boy in the kindergarten who has been bullying Little Jelly Bean, so Tyler helped her beat the boy."
Carter chuckled. "This bad boy did a good job, I bet."
Helen glared at him. "Don't praise him. This is indirectly telling him that fighting is right. Although he's right to help Little Jelly Bean, it's indeed wrong to beat people. He must change! If not, it'll be too late if he becomes a violent person."
"Definitely not to that extent."
Helen smiled and took away his big hand and said, "Hurry up and serve dinner."
On the dining table, there were three dishes and one soup. Two of the dishes were vegetarian, and one of them was a meat dish. The soup was made out of tomato and egg. Everything smelled good and looked delicious.
Helen gave a piece of rib to Carter. "Hubby, have a piece of rib. You're tired from work. Eat more."
Carter curved his thin lips and tasted it. It tasted really good.
"Wifey, your food is more appetizing to me than those from a chef in a seven-star hotel."
Helen glared at him. "You sound as if you've eaten food cooked by a chef in a seven-star hotel. You have to be realistic when you compliment someone."
Carter said subconsciously, "Why haven't I eaten it?"
Helen was in a daze. "When did you have it? Why don’t I know?"
Carter's black eyes flashed with an unknown expression, and he said as calmly, "Oh, I forgot to tell you this. Yesterday, I accompanied my boss for a business visit, so we dined in a seven-star hotel with the customer. However, it wasn’t really tasty."
"Carter, is your company rich? I feel that your boss is so generous."
"Our company's employee benefits are very good. After all, it's a listed company."
Helen nodded and did not ask more. Carter was a man who made someone feel secure, so she trusted everything he said.
Tyler was eating a piece of rib with his small hand as he said, "Daddy, mommy, can you just eat properly and stop displaying your affection? I feel full just by watching you."
Carter glared at his son. "Don't eat if you're full. Go back to your room and read a book instead."
Tyler rolled his eyes and said, "Anyway, Daddy, I forgot to tell you that I have to pay for the school meal fee this month."
Carter asked, "How much?"
"Three thousand."
Helen was shocked. "Didn't we just pay the fees? Why are we paying it again?"
"Mommy, last month, you dragged out until the end of the month to give me the fees. Meanwhile, others pay it at the beginning of the month. Now, it's the beginning of the month again, so we have to pay it again."
Carter frowned slightly and looked at Helen. "Wifey, if you don't have money, why don't you just take my money?"
"Your monthly salary is only 10 thousand bucks. The kindergarten that Tyler is attending now is too expensive. We have to pay three thousand bucks per month for the meal fees alone. You also have to maintain your car. If you're responsible for all the household expenses, you won't have much money left."
Carter saw Helen feeling distressed and worried for him, and his heart was warmed. He stretched out his hand and stroked her long hair. He said softly, "Don't I have savings? Didn’t I give you the bank card?"
"How can I use that? That's only for emergencies. I've thought it through. From now on, Tyler's meal fees should be paid with my salary."
Although her salary was not as much as Carter's, she still earned six thousand bucks per month.
Carter chuckled and kissed the forehead of the little woman in his arms. "I should support you. If I make more money, you can be a full-time housewife at home instead of going out to work every day."
"I don't envy those full-time housewives. As long as our family is happy together, it doesn't matter if we're tired or not."
Carter touched her little hand and saw her empty ring finger. He paused slightly. Then, he lowered his head and locked his eyes on her, saying, "Wifey, let's pick a ring when we have time. We've been married for three years now and yet you’ve never had a wedding ring."
"It doesn't matter. We’re already spending so much money on Tyler's studies. The ring can wait. If we buy it now, it will be another expense."
Carter looked at his young wife. He felt sorry for her as she was really innocent and lovely. "Wifey, I'll feel guilty if you're being so considerate."
"Actually, I really don't care. You don't need to feel like you owe me. Come on, quickly eat up."
"Okay, I'll wash the dishes after eating."
...
When Carter was washing dishes in the kitchen, his cell phone rang. The caller ID showed Luke Graham.
"Hello?"
The person on the other end, Assistant Graham, was particularly anxious. "Boss, when will you come back to the Gale Group? The chairman just flipped out. If you don't come back soon, the chairman will really kill me!"
"Just wait. There’s no hurry."
Luke thought, 'You always say it's no hurry and are having so much fun on the outside. I'm the one who suffers…’
"Boss, you have to have mercy on me."
Emotionless, Carter said, "Luke, you know, I usually don't have sympathy for others."
Luke was speechless, "..."
