Verian never knew that her relationship with Heaton would have such a deep meaning behind it.
Verian stared at him with a smile as she said, “If I never left the hospital and actually met you sooner, do you think we’d end up with a very different outcome?”
Heaton raised his brows slightly. He felt that he could not be bothered by her question.
A very different outcome? He did not think that was likely…
“If I met you then, perhaps we might even have gotten married sooner and we wouldn’t have to wait for three years. As for the outcome though, there is only one outcome and that is, it’s only a matter of time for you to become Madam Fudd, nothing else.”
He sounded calm but his tone was determined, without any hints of hesitation.
Little Jelly Bean who was sitting next to them covered her huge dark eyes with both hands and spoke in a childish tone, “Eww… Daddy, you’re too cheesy!”
Both Heaton and Verian were stunned as they chuckled while staring at each other.
Heaton carried Little Jelly Bean off the couch then grabbed her tiny bag from the floor and said, “Do your homework.”
Little Jelly Bean hugged Heaton’s neck with both of her short legs suspended mid-air. She said, “I don’t want to! I don’t want to do my homework! Daddy, are you trying to get me away from Monty to do something unspeakable with her?”
Verian was speechless.
Heaton stared at the little rascal with a stern look. He lectured, “Where’d you learn something like that as a three year old?”
“Hmph! I’m no longer a three year old child! Grandpa said I will turn four in a few days! I am now an independent and mature woman!”
Heaton ignored the little rascal and sent her directly into his study.
When Verian came into the study with a plate of sliced fruits, she noticed both father and daughter were sitting together.
The adult was focused on his computer monitor doing work while the child sitting next to him was painting a drawing with a paintbrush. Both her legs were casually swaying mid-air while occasionally either scratching her tiny face with her hands or taking a few glances at his laptop.
Verian did not disturb the father and daughter duo as she gently shut the door while holding onto the plate of fruits. She went to the kitchen to prepare dinner.
Heaton’s stomach was not well so his diet was usually bland. However, Little Jelly Bean spent most of her time in the Fudd family home so even if she was to cook, she would often make a simple three course meal with a bowl of soup for dinner since Heaton was busier at the end of the year and rarely came home for dinner. Hence, her dinner had always been quite simple.
Since Little Jelly Bean was here today, and the little rascal loved eating sweet and sour pork and strawberry butter cake, Verian had already bought the ingredients beforehand.
She wondered to herself as to who would make sweet and sour pork and strawberry butter cake after she left.
Verian paused unknowingly while slicing some vegetables.
However, on a much deeper thought, she realized she was overthinking. Even after she left, Madam Leah would still make them for Little Jelly Bean in the Fudd family home. Not to mention, the old man absolutely adored Little Jelly Bean so she would still be able to eat anything she wanted. Besides…
Did the old man not mention that she was only sent away from North City for some time just to wait out the storm? She would still have the chance to return in the future.
However, why was Verian not able to continue slicing the vegetables? She began tearing up.
She was somewhat afraid that she would never have the chance to ever return to North City again.
As Verian was lost in her mind, a tiny hand suddenly tugged the corner of her shirt while saying, “Monty!”
“When do you have that many people though?” Heaton was puzzled while frowning slightly.
“Yeah, aside from you, I have Little Jelly Bean. She would defend me even though she’s so young. There’s also dad. Although on the surface he didn’t seem to accept or like me that much, I can feel that he still cares about me.”
Heaton found it comical as he said, “If the old man heard what you said, he might favor you even more since he’s known not to be liked by many people.”
Verian buried her face into his shoulder and closed her eyes. She said, “He’s doing it for our own good though.”
Heaton gave a simple neutral reply before suddenly carrying her in his arms and said, “If you give him another grandson or granddaughter, he would worship you like the Buddha himself.”
Verian was skeptical as she said, “That can’t be serious, right?”
“Why don’t you give it a try.”
Verian blushed. “I’m not going to.”
Heaton carried her into the master bedroom as both of them stumbled onto the huge bed. Heaton stared at the woman underneath him with a burning gaze while saying, “Madam Fudd, it’s too late to back out now. You’re already on board a pirate’s ship.”
“Huuu…” They kissed.
Verian opened her eyes slightly as she stared intensely at the man’s face for a really long while.
Heaton could somehow feel her gaze. He opened his eyes as well and pressed his forehead against her while asking, “What are you staring at me for?”
Verian hugged his neck with both arms before kissing his lips again and said, “I just miss you.”
