Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 230

When Verian bent over to pick it up, she handed it back to the lady and apologized, “Sorry for bumping into you earlier, miss.”

Xyla shook her head and took the picture. “Don’t worry about it. I wasn’t watching where I was walking as well.”

“This picture… who is the person to you?”

Verian was extremely curious as to what kind of relationship Heaton shared with the woman in front of her and how would she have Heaton’s picture?

That picture seemed aged but the owner had kept it very well since it looked new.

Xyla chuckled and spoke in a carefree tone, “Oh, it’s my ex boyfriend.”

Verian was stunned at the same spot she stood. She obviously did not expect to run into Heaton’s ex girlfriend when she spontaneously decided to go shopping today!

She had mentally prepared herself, since it would be impossible for Heaton, a man in his thirties to not have any romantic history. However, when Heaton’s ex girlfriend was standing in front of her, she could not help but compare herself with her.

It was obvious that the woman with an excellent body in front of her was much better than her regardless of how much she compared.

It was not because of her low self esteem but it seemed that from the way Xyla dressed and how she looked, she was way too different from her.

Xyla would resemble a strong business woman more than she was.

However, did Heaton not mention before that he disliked ‘strong women’ since he was hurt by a ‘strong woman’?

Xyla noticed her puzzled look so, she intentionally asked, “You seem to know my ex boyfriend?”

Verian touched her neck and said while feeling slightly bashful, “I didn’t expect such a coincidence. I know Heaton as well.”

“Really? What a coincidence, you are Heaton’s…”

Verian bluntly admitted, “Girlfriend.”

Xyla laughed and extended her arm. “Greetings, I’m Xyla.”

Since it was lunch hour, Xyla invited Verian for lunch. Verian felt awful to turn her down, not to mention that she was quite interested in asking her things that she had no idea about.

They selected a chinese restaurant and ordered eight dishes which included vegetables, meat and some chinese dumplings.

Xyla sighed and said, “I spent the last five years in the United States. It’s been so long since I’ve had any local dishes.”

Verian nodded and said, “I also had two to three years of experience overseas. The food overseas truly does not taste the same.”

While Xyla was eating, she noticed the skincare products that were placed next to Verian. She said, “The target audience for this brand seems to be mostly for pregnant women and there isn’t much of an effect anyway. You… you’re pregnant?”

Verian’s watery eyes were stunned as she instinctively denied it and said, “My skin is prone to allergies so I bought this brand.”

Xyla cracked a grin with her red lips as she noticed the ring around her ring finger. She chuckled and asked, “You’re about to marry Heaton?”

Verian felt that there was no need to lie about these matters but she had to keep her guard up. “Soon, but we haven’t decided on the time yet.”

“When the time comes, remember to invite me over to your wedding.”

Verian merely laughed. She never replied. Xyla then intentionally said, “I truly didn’t expect Heaton would get married someday. It’s very surprising to me.”

The hand which Verian used to pick up her chopsticks stopped mid-air as she asked, “Why didn’t he want to get married?”

Was Heaton not a fan of marriage?

Xyla took a sip from her fruit juice. She then took a glance at Verian and asked, “Miss Mont, how long had you been together with Heaton now?”

“Quite some time now.”

The truth was, if she did not take the three years that she was a surrogate for Heaton into account, she would merely have been together with Heaton for half a year.

“Judging from the looks of things, you don’t seem to understand him enough. Don’t you realize that his behavior would be very different sometimes?”

“Nope, he’s amazing. Although his temper can be slightly heated, he just doesn't like expressing himself, that’s all.”

It was true that Heaton’s temperament was quite unstable but she could truly feel that Heaton treated her amazingly well.

Xyla shook her head and said, “Miss Mont, you’ve misunderstood what I meant now. What I mean is, don’t you feel that sometimes Heaton’s personality can differ drastically, so much so, that he seems like another person? Or does this mean that the time you spent with Heaton, is too short and you’ve never seen that side of Heaton before?”

Verian raised her brows slightly and said, “What exactly are you trying to say, Miss Xyla?”

“I broke up with Heaton five years ago then made my way to America. Do you know why I broke up with him?”

Upon noticing Verian’s silence, Xyla spoke while slowly eating her vegetables, “This is because sometimes he would become someone I don’t know. I’m not sure if you would understand what I said but Miss Mont, I advise you to not marry him so quickly especially when you don’t really understand who Heaton is.”

Verian placed her chopsticks down. She was displeased as she said, “Miss Xyla, I agreed to have a meal with you out of respect but if you keep trying to put a wrench between Heaton and I, I think, I no longer need to continue eating.”

Verian picked up her things, immediately stood up and was about to leave. After walking two steps, she paused and coldly said, “You will never experience how good Heaton is. Hence, your broke up five years ago. Since you’ve already broken up with him, please don’t interrupt his current life.”

Xyla tossed her chopsticks down and scoffed. She said, “What if I tell you that Heaton had split personality disorder and he could transform into someone else at any moment. Would you still dare to be with him if that’s the case?”

Verian’s heart pounded for a moment as her watery eyes were stunned.

What? Split personality disorder?

Verian squeezed her palm, turned around and stared at Xyla. She said word by word, “Even if Heaton becomes someone else, I will never be like you to hastily leave him.”

“Hmph, that’s easy for you to say. Verian, just wait till you meet that side of Heaton, then you will act exactly like me. Aren’t you afraid of a person with a mental disorder? Perhaps someday, he will suddenly become someone else and harm you whilst in a foggy mental state.”

Mental disorder?

“What do you want to eat? I’ll have Kush order.”

“Anything works. Porridge or whatever works.”

Heaton dialed the intercom and told Kush to order some lunch.

Verian was continuously staring at him.

Heaton raised his brows and said, “What are you staring at me for? Miss me?”

She placed the cup down then burrowed her head into him. She spoke in a weak tone, “Yeah, missed you a little so I came by to look for you but will I be disturbing your work?”

The man teased, “You dropped by even though you already knew?”

She raised her tiny face and stared at his handsome chin. She said, “Heaton, are you hiding anything from me?”

“Why’d you ask?”

Verian cracked a grin on the edge of her lips and said, “You haven’t told me when it was your first time.”

Heaton found it comical as he stared at her with a burning gaze. He said, “You’re that interested to know about this?”

“Since you’ve tied me down already, don’t I have the right to know about it?”

“If I tell you, you won’t get mad or jealous?”

Verian shook her head and said, “I will never get mad. I’m not a child and it’s perfectly normal to have a few romantic pasts. Besides, you’re not a kid and at your current age, you’re an old man now, so it’s perfectly normal for an old man to have some sort of history…”

“Who are you calling old man?”

Oh… Heaton was actually quite sensitive about his age.

Verian buttered up to him and said, “In my eyes, you’re the youngest most handsome man in the world!”

“Buttering up to me much?”

Verian was speechless.

Verian nuzzled up against him and said, “Nope, it’s just facts. Don’t change the topic. You have to come clean with me regarding your romantic past. My romantic past is very simple and you know everything about it already but I don’t know a thing about yours.”

The man lowered his head and looked at her as his eyes were flashed with a serious glimmer. He said, “You’re that interested in my past?”

“Riana, my past isn’t as glamorous as you imagined. It’s dark. There were times where I was completely helpless. A man with plenty of self-esteem would not wish to tell the woman he loves about the stumbles in his past.”

“But I wish to hear them and I want to help carry your burden even though they were awful things. However, if you don’t wish to tell me, I won’t force you to.”
