Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 1136

12:00 a.m., Lunar New Year Eve. Sounds of countless fireworks and firecrackers being lit could be heard while people welcomed the Lunar New Year, creating a lot of festive noises.

However, that cold winter night highlighted the loneliness of that lone figure standing below the building.

Glowing cigarette butts were littered near his legs, shimmering in the cold wind.

Shayne stood beneath the building, looking up at the second floor. The small dull table lamp in that small room switched on, then off, then on, and off again. Finally, it eventually went dark.

The outhouse in the mansion’s backyard was a gift from the developer when he had the mansion built. It was built following a fusion of eastern and western styles. Shayne used to like collecting garage kits and antiques. He collected quite a lot of rare goods and they were all placed in that small building.

That outhouse was supposed to be for him to keep his treasured items. However, at that moment, it turned into a cage for him to imprison his wife.

Shayne took out a box of sparklers. He promised that he would light up fireworks for her on Lunar New Year’s Eve.

He took out a lighter from the pocket of his jacket. Lighting the flame with a click, he then used it to light up a sparkler. The sparkler then sizzled as it burnt, seemingly shooting off stars from his hand.

He lit one sparkler after another. The floor was littered with black sticks after the sparklers had been burnt through.

He remembered the time back at Oz City’s beach, she said that lighting up fireworks to cheer up a woman was such a stupid thing. She even told him not to do it for other women in the future as they would be disgusted.

Back then, he thought he would light up a lifetime of fireworks for this woman. Only for her.

However, fireworks were fleeting. Right after they bloomed, no matter how nice they were, loneliness would ensue.

More often than not, things that were highly expected would always be thwarted by fate. He should not have promised her to light her fireworks when he returned.

Shayne did not know when would that kind of torture end. However, he kept reassuring himself that it would eventually come to an end.

As long as she was by his side, he would eventually find a chance and reason to forgive her. It did not matter if it was forced, or out of self delusion.

No matter how much it hurt, he would never let go.

That was because he loved her too much. His love was deep, dirty, and it came along with a sense of possessiveness and compulsive obsession. It also came with a lot of darker emotions like sadness, insecurity, fear of loss, and despair.

He would always be defeated by those negative emotions. It felt like he was sinking into a swamp. The more he struggled, the deeper he sank.

Meanwhile, he loved Yanny, and had to drag her along, yet at the same time, he wished for her to save him.

He was waiting. Waiting for Yanny to save him, waiting for Yanny to give him a reason to forgive her.

All those negative and violent emotions had nowhere to go, therefore it could only be vented at her. Upon seeing her being badly hurt by his torture, Shayne was finally able to momentarily let go of his hatred for her. He convinced himself to pity her, even if it was to treat her a little better.

The clock rang as it reached 12:00 a.m. on Lunar New Year.

Shayne stared at the dark room on the second floor and muttered softly, “Yanny, happy new year.”

At that moment, he still could not bring himself to face her calmly. Not seeing her was the best option.

However, Shayne did not know that very night that he stood downstairs for the whole night, Yanny was waiting on the second floor. She waited the entire night for the fireworks.

People who stay true to their words would never forget their promises just like that.

At 7:00 a.m. the following day, the sky began to brighten up.

Yanny walked up to the window and looked downstairs. There were no fireworks, nor the person she waited for.

She hoped that Shayne would suddenly appear with fireworks lining the entire lower floor, then during the moment those fireworks ignited, he would walk out of the colorful show of lights toward her.

However, she knew that she did not deserve it.

On the first morning of the Lunar New Year, Cindy and Samantha came to visit.

Cindy stood angrily behind Samantha, shouting with her neck outstretched, “Shayne Jinn! What did you do to Yanny?! This is a warning. You better hand Yanny over right now! Otherwise… otherwise, I’ll call the cops!”

Shayne’s expression looked terrible. It was cold and emotionless, wrapping himself in a chilling aura. No matter how courageous Cindy was, it was all a bluster. She tugged at Samantha’s clothes and hid behind her, speaking softly, “Samantha, your brother is scary. Why does he look like someone just died?”

Shayne frowned, then glared at Cindy with a sharp look. “How did you learn of this matter?”

“I… You don’t need to know how I heard of it! If you don’t let me see Yanny, I’ll… I’ll call the cops!”

Samantha was also afraid that Shayne might really do something horrible. Although her brother did look terrifying at the moment, she still braced herself and said, “Brother, just let us see Sister Yanny! No, you both are married now. She’s my sister-in-law. Brother, please let us see my sister-in-law! If you have any misunderstanding with her, Cindy and I can try to talk to her. Maybe we might be able to help you!”

Even though Yanny was smiling, Cindy felt that her smile seemed more painful than her crying.

Cindy hugged her tightly and sobbed. “I’ve already heard about it from Samuel. He’s investigating the matter. I know you’re being set up. Yanny, this is not your fault alone. You can’t blame yourself like this. No matter how badly Shayne lost control of his emotions, he should not hurt you like this.”

Yanny smiled calmly, but as she smiled, tears rolled down her eyes. She looked at Cindy and said, “Cindy, I think I’m really stuck in this dead end. I’ve split up with Shayne for so many times before this, but never once did I feel this hopeless, because I knew that if I worked hard, I’d be able to return to his side. However, this time, things are different. No matter how hard I try, both of us… are never getting back together.

“I’ve lost him forever. He’s eternally lost to me. I want this to be like those breakups I had with him in the past, where I’d reconcile with him after some time. But now, Cindy, I’ve lost that chance. Nowadays, when he abuses me, I even think that it’s better that way than him ignoring me. When he abuses me, I actually… actually feel a little better. Cindy, do you think I’m sick?”

Cindy stared at her. She covered her mouth and started bawling. “Yanny, you can’t stay here any longer. Right now, Shayne has become a demon. If you continue to be tortured by him like this, it’s not just him, but you will go crazy too!”

Cindy swallowed hard, then pulled open Yanny’s sleeve and showed it to her face. She cried in anger and said, “These are all left by Shayne, aren’t they? How many more such scars did he leave on your body? Yanny, he’s a demon right now. If you don’t leave him, you’ll die.”

Yanny’s lips curled into a smile and said, “I don’t mind. Cindy, Shayne is only… he’s only… too angry and losing control.”

Cindy stared at the lines of tears streaming from her clear eyes and knew that she was in a terrible state.

Shayne tortured her to that extent, yet she kept saying that it was fine and secretly forgiving Shayne in her heart. She meekly forced a smile on her face and tried to defend Shayne, claiming that Shayne did not do it intentionally, claiming that he was only having difficulty controlling himself.

Cindy gritted her teeth. “Shayne, that b*stard!”

Yanny used to be such a proud and stunning girl, yet at that moment, her eyes were dull, meek and insignificant. It was all because of Shayne. He not only abused Yanny’s body and soul but he had also crushed Yanny’s pride and dignity.

Cindy sniffled, then said with reddened eyes, “Yanny, don’t worry. I’ll definitely think of a way to get you out of here. You must hang in there. Also… when Shayne hurts you, you must protect yourself. Don’t live in guilt. You’re not in the wrong. You don’t owe him anything. Your love for him can’t be an excuse for him to hurt you!”

Yanny asked helplessly, “Cindy, do you think that it’s unsuitable if the love is too deep?”

If the love was too deep, it would always hurt both parties. It would cause a strong sense of insecurity, and also elicit an overbearing possessiveness that would hurt both parties.

The love was too deep, therefore they were unable to tolerate a single grain of unclean sand. Their love was not to be tainted by a speck of dust.

That violent love was just as powerful as death. Not only would it destroy himself, but it would also destroy the other party.

Cindy stared at her in a daze, sobbing and sniffling. At that moment, she did not know how to respond to Yanny’s question.

However, Yanny already started to monologue. “The love is too deep, therefore unsuitable. Actually, I’ve realized much earlier that Shayne and I are unsuitable for each other. It’s just… I could not bear to let go. I felt that as long as there’s love, then the doubts and insecurities between us would eventually be gone. However, in the end, I still lost it because I love him too deeply. The love is too deep, therefore the disappointment is just as great. I imagine he must be thoroughly disappointed in me.”
