On the day that Shayne left, Yanny kept herself occupied by sending her wedding invitation in a bulk.
Somehow, she had also sent it to Samuel who was far away in England.
After sending the invitation, Yanny thought of recalling the message. However, when she was about to click on the recall button, she felt that there was no need to do so.
Samuel and her had long been regular friends.
Even if she intentionally sent him a wedding invitation, it was nothing.
As to whether he would attend was up to him. Yanny did not mind.
If he chose to attend, that would mean that he had moved on. Otherwise, it did not matter to her if he could not move on.
After all, it was all in the past and inconsequential.
…
With Director Young Jr.’s help, Cara got in touch with Maria.
From the information gathered by his men, Cara learned that Maria had met up with Yanny once but it did not end well. Maria wished to reconcile her mother-son relationship with Shayne but failed to accomplish anything. Moreover, she was even dissed by Yanny in the process.
Cara asked Maria out to a highly secretive cafe and met her in a private room.
When Maria arrived, she checked Cara out and was disgusted by her. She looked down on her and said coldly, “You mentioned on the phone that you can help me convince Shayne to invest in Haynes Corporation? Are you being serious or is this a joke?”
No matter how she looked at it, the girl before her did not seem like the type that would pique Shayne’s interest.
Maria could not help but feel skeptical.
Cara smiled, ignoring Maria’s arrogance. She was just making use of her after all. Maria might be arrogant at the moment but would definitely come ingratiating to her in the future.
“If I were joking, I wouldn’t have bothered, Madam Sanders, much less asked you out to meet in such a place.”
“Who are you?” Maria asked doubtfully.
Cara replied, “I wonder if Madam Sanders still remembers the name Yanny Joy. She’s my step sister that I share a father with. We’ve never been on good terms. Before this, Master Shayne was my fiance but Yanny used some shameful means to steal my fiance away from me. I must have my revenge.”
Maria took a sip of her coffee, then asked, “If Miss Jacob is seeking vengeance, then why are you looking for an outsider like me?”
Cara’s lips curled into a smile. “Madam Sanders once met with Yanny and tried to convince her to help you reconcile your mother and son relationship with Master Shayne. However, she had been disrespectful.”
“So what? Yanny is about to get married to Shayne. If I go against her, that’s no different than going against Shayne.”
Cara let out her trump card as a ruthless and calculative look flashed across her eyes, saying, “I understand Yanny very well. She’s an arrogant person. Madam Sanders. She would not help you put in a good word to Master Shayne. I know that the Haynes Corporation is in need of a lot of money. The Haynes Corporation has persevered for such a long time. If its cash flow issue can’t be solved, it will soon go bankrupt. The reason you came back here to deal with Master Shayne is for his investment, isn’t it?”
“You investigated me?”
Cara did not deny the allegation but instead lifted her chin slightly, saying, “Yanny can’t help you, but I can.”
“How can you help me? Why should I believe you?”
Cara looked at Maria and said, “My mother once saved Master Shayne’s life and I’m betrothed to Master Shayne to begin with. If not for this Yanny appearing out of nowhere, the position of Mrs. Jinn would’ve been mine. I need Madam Sanders to help me dethrone Yanny from her position as Mrs. Jinn. Moreover, I want her future destroyed.”
Maria did not expect that Cara would have such a ruthless side to her. However, the Haynes Corporation would be facing bankruptcy if the Jinn Group did not invest in them. Maria was unwilling to collaborate with this kind of person but given her situation, she could not help but lower herself for this.
“What’s your plan?”
“I know all about Yanny’s past. Naturally, I also know what her fatal weakness is. If Madam Sanders is willing to help me, my compensation for you will be beyond your expectations.”
“Fine, I’ll help you.”
…
London, England.
However, he never expected those qualities that others considered as virtues would cause him to lose Yanny.
If he could love her more passionately, more openly, without caring so much for the consequences, would the relationship between them have turned out differently?
Unsure whether it was the lowered inhibition of the alcohol or the long-suppressed feelings surging, Samuel made a phone call.
He gave his instruction using his fluent British accent, “Alice, book me a plane ticket for tomorrow morning to North City.”
This time, even if it was just a gamble, it would still be much better than wishing her well while doing nothing.
Samuel knew full well lamentable it was for him to lose Yanny in his life.
In the past, he never dared to take the gamble because he was afraid of losing her. In the end, he could not even be a regular friend with her. However, humans were like that, passing their days in stagnation. Only when things were truly over would they regret not taking the chance.
Back in his younger days, his parents would constantly teach him not to stir up trouble or start fights because of their bad financial situation, claiming that they could not afford to lose a fight.
When he was in university, he loved to draw but his family’s finances were not able to support him to delve into the field of arts. It was too costly. For his family, he studied finance which he hated. That was because it was the field that would help him succeed the fastest.
In the end, he acquired a strong financial background and hired foreign professors in an art institute to be his teacher, guiding him on drawing so that he could experience the arts.
However, he no longer felt the joy of drawing. In the weekly art class that spanned two hours, he would often get disrupted by important phone calls, ruining his mood.
In his life, he never dared to gamble because he was afraid of losing.
Meanwhile, Shayne was a born gambler, wild and unrestrained. Time and time again, he would gamble without a care. Time and time again, he would push Yanny to a breaking point.
Fear, sadness, loss, mental breakdown, despair… Those were the basic emotions in love.
Shayne had repeatedly used underhanded means to deepen Yanny’s feelings for him, removing Samuel completely from the bottom of Yanny’s heart, leaving nothing behind.
He should have known long ago that someone like Yanny would keep her heart locked away from others, covering it beneath a thick layer of ice. If the heat was not sufficient, if he did not have the attitude of a gambler, how would he manage to breach that barrier?
