Yanny took some effort getting into character. Being on-set the entire day, Shayne did not call her again.
At first, she thought that Shayne was the rebellious type where he would want to do things the more he was told not to. Whatever you ask of him to do, he would do the opposite. She did not expect her boyfriend would listen to her. She asked him not to call her and he really did.
When she was done with work, the sky was already dark.
A crew member ran over and said, “Yanny, it’s already late. Let me send you back.”
Yanny smiled and refused, “It’s fine. The hotel is pretty near so I can go back by myself. Thank you.”
“Actually...I’m under Master Shayne’s instructions,” the female crew member said playfully into Yanny’s ear.
Yanny was stunned. She did not know what Shayne was up to.
The crew member said to Yanny, “It’s a surprise.”
Yanny could not help but laugh. She carried her bag and said, “Then, take me to it.”
The crew member drove with Yanny in the backseat. They were on the road for 10 minutes and had still not reached.
“This is not the way back to the hotel?”
The crew member laughed humorously. “How could there be a surprise in the hotel? We still have about half an hour more to go. Why don’t you take a rest first?”
Yanny did not dare to take a rest. She stared at where the crew member was taking her, in case she was being sold off.
She sent a message to Shayne but he did not reply.
50 minutes later, the car stopped by a beach. If it were not for the crew member looking small and skinny, Yanny thought that she was going to be murdered and have her body thrown into the sea.
The moment she got down of the car, the crew member drove off immediately. She could barely react and yell out.
Yanny scanned her surroundings. It was total darkness by the sea. The beach was unreserved. She was wearing a thin dress, the cold breeze by the sea making her hug her arms tight.
She opened the phone and dialed Shayne’s number. Once the call went through, she heard a phone ring from nearby.
She turned around and saw a man smiling at her with his phone by his ear.
Shayne was wearing a black shirt with sleeves rolled up casually. One hand was on his phone by his ears, the other was in his pants pocket. He stood casually by the beach nearby, accompanied by the night breeze.
Yanny asked through the phone, “Why did you bring me here?”
Shayne hung up. He did not answer her.
He only fished around for a cigarette and flipped his lighter open as a small flame appeared. He lit the cigarette in his mouth.
Then, he turned around, holding the lighted cigarette in his hand as a row of fireworks lit behind him.
In the dark, the sound of fireworks being lit could be heard.
Yanny was stunned. She looked at the row of little flames on the beach and was vaguely aware of what was about to happen.
When Shayne finished lighting all the fireworks, he got up and walked back toward Yanny.
The fireworks were lit, with countless fireworks going off behind Shayne as they bloomed brilliantly in mid-air.
Under the fireworks, Shayne’s eyes were equally burning, deep and bright. The night breeze blew his shirt, causing it to bulge slightly. Shayne walked toward Yanny step by step, full of determination.
The fireworks behind him shone even brighter.
Yanny looked at Shayne and the fireworks, being one with the night sky. It was a stunning sight to behold.
Shayne walked all the way to Yanny’s side and accompanied her to watch the fireworks.
When she was younger, she was jealous of Cara being able to celebrate her birthday. She took Cara’s birthday cake to the backyard and threw it on the floor but was stumbled upon by Winson. He made her kneel in the backyard for a long time as punishment.
When she was 16 years old, she eloped with Samuel. They had a small, rented house. Samuel was 23 that year, in his second year after graduating. He was busy working.
On her birthday, she waited for him to surprise her, yet he came home drunk and unable to walk straight after drinking with clients. She did not blame him, but she did miss out on the surprise and warmth.
That night, Samuel hugged her and said hoarsely, “Yanny, I will give you the world. You have to wait for me.”
How deeply emotional, yet those emotions could not compare to the shock of the surprise in front of her.
Promises and vows had always been the most feeble of things. The fantasy of a better future could not be compared to the brilliant and dazzling fireworks of the present.
Even if it was a fleeting moment, it was an eternity as well.
Yanny buried herself deep in Shayne’s arms. She tightly hugged his waist. Her eyes were wet, her tears soaking through his chest.
Shayne’s heart was fluttering and ached slightly at the same time. However, he also enjoyed it. He smiled maliciously and asked, “You’re so touched that you cried?”
Yanny, smothered in his arms, asked with a low, rough voice, “Master Shayne, you’ve celebrated many women’s birthday by putting on fireworks?”
Shayne could not help but laugh. He stroked her hair, lowered his head, and kissed her forehead. “I’m not that promiscuous. This is also my first time doing such a silly thing.”
Yanny’s soft and pretty lips smiled stunningly.
She lightly responded and replied, “Hmm, next time you don’t need to do such silly things for other women. They’ll hate it.”
Next time, she said next time.
Shayne lowered his head, smiled, and looked at her. “I’ll take it as a promise.”
Yanny held onto his waist and for a moment, she was surprised to feel that the word eternity was nothing special.
