Eleanor stared in surprise for a few seconds, then gave a small, composed smile. “Mr. Windsor, I actually know the owner of the Juliette Lab. I can reach out to him.”

York let out a sigh of relief. “That’s wonderful. I’ll leave this in your hands, then. Now that we’ve decided to restart the lab, let’s not waste any time. Once we make up our minds, we have to act.”

Dr. Windsor had spent his entire life in research—methodical, decisive, and never one to procrastinate.

Eleanor nodded. “Alright. I’ll arrange a meeting with him soon.”

After dropping York off at his hotel, Eleanor glanced at the clock and headed home to pick up her daughter. On the drive, her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts, but one thing in particular made her feel profoundly grateful: this time, Mr. Windsor’s lab had nothing to do with Ian.

Ian had invested widely in scientific research lately. If he ever found out that Mr. Windsor’s team had made breakthroughs in brain-computer interfaces two years ago, he’d stop at nothing to get involved.

“Evelyn!” The two girls beamed at each other and quickly grabbed hands, skipping off together.
