"What exactly happened?" Jonathan's tone grew impatient.

Alicia took a deep breath and then recounted everything in detail. Of course, in her usual style, she dodged the worst parts, painted herself spotless, and did everything she could to throw dirt on us.

Jonathan looked me in the eyes and asked, "Is what she said true?"

"Why are you asking me if you already believe her?" I snapped, clearly annoyed. "Whatever she says, just take it as gospel."

"I'm asking you." He pinched my cheek, forcing me to meet his gaze. "Don't you understand what I'm saying?"

He was really getting angry now, and the dark hostility around him was impossible to hide.

Alicia sniffled, her nose red. "Jonathan, don't be like this. I'm scared…"
