Chapter 170
“Given how much Jonathan cared about Alicia, he’ll definitely back whoever Alicia’s supporting,”
Gabrielle said.
She paused, then glanced at me. She seemed worried that I’d be upset.
I smiled. “So what? I don’t even care about Jonathan now, let alone Alicia.”
“That being said, I still want you to be able to focus on your work,” Gabrielle replied, swiftly changing the topic. “Oh, right, didn’t you say you were going to start a company with Frederick?”
“We’re not there yet,” I said. “It’s just one project for now. Whether we can actually pull it off… We’ll
have to wait and see.”
Gabrielle nodded, smiling. “If your company takes off one day, can I be your first employee?”
My eyes lit up. “Of course you can! Then you won’t have to keep putting up with Jonathan anymore. But…”
I glanced at her, suddenly hesitating.
I knew her well. It must’ve taken her a lot of effort to land a job at Millenia Corporation. Even if
Jonathan said he gave her a leg up because of me, I knew she was capable. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been promoted to manager in just a few years.
I clenched my fists. As much as I wanted her to join me, what if we couldn’t make it?
What if I were destined to fail? Was I supposed to drag her down with me?
I couldn’t let that happen.
Perhaps sensing my hesitation, Gabrielle suddenly held my hand and said, “Starting today, you have to tell me whatever’s on your mind. If you don’t, I’ll be mad!”
“Alright, got it.” I smiled at her. “I hope I get to see the day you live off me.”
We both laughed.
